Laboratory Assistant

Overview
Here at the OTI our innovative sampling tools and diagnostics unlock access to accurate, essential information that advances global health and well-being. Our products include molecular sampling kits for the genome and microbiome, and rapid diagnostics for infectious disease.

SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

Participates in the monitoring/documentation of temperatures of incubators, refrigerators and freezers including defrosting of the freezers. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the autoclave and automatic dishwasher. Also participates in the washing of glassware and refilling of pipette tip holders for all locations of OTI in Bethlehem, PA. Other tasks may include building devices, cleaning and maintenance of hoods or other duties that will assist in the operation and maintenance of the laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Follows and maintains procedures for washing glassware and monitoring temperatures for all OTI facilities in Bethlehem, PA.
  • Trains any temporary workers that will be required during PTO days to perform tasks if necessary.
  • Assures that adequate inventories of supplies and reagents are available for the washing of laboratory glassware and refilling of pipette tips.
  • Assists in performing routine laboratory tasks such as using calibrated scales to weigh out dry components, using graduated cylinders and flasks to measure liquids, preparing sample dilutions.
  • Supports routine R&D activities such as device assembly, labeling, and pouching.
  • Complies with all pertinent biosafety, safety, and regulatory policies in the handling of hazardous materials and specimens. Maintains general cleanliness of assigned laboratory areas.
  • Supports the development of company culture that recognizes the key importance of “total quality improvement” to the success of OraSure Technologies.
Qualifications

  • Good interpersonal skills.

Education / Experience

  • 1 year of experience in a clinical or research and development laboratory.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be capable of working in a laboratory environment.
  • Standing, bending and the ability to access various areas of the laboratory.
  • Must be capable of giving and following written and oral directions.
  • Must be present at the designated work location daily
