About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY: The Emergency Department Supervisor works closely with the Director of Emergency and Obstetrics to provide overall support of the ER nursing staff and acts as a resource to ER nursing staff. The Emergency Department Supervisor identifies education needs of individual staff members and/or the ER unit as a whole and plans and implements educational offerings. The Emergency Department Supervisor conducts performance reviews and collaborates with the Nursing Director to improve the overall performance of the Emergency department. The Emergency Department Supervisor oversees the orientation and preceptorships of new employees. This position oversees annual skills/competency testing and assures orientation of nursing staff to new equipment and procedures. The Emergency Department Supervisor conducts ER staff meetings and actively participates in Emergency Department Committee meetings. This position reviews and revises Emergency Department policies and procedures. The Emergency Department Supervisor may provide direct patient care and will also have scheduled administrative time during each pay period to accomplish leadership responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing
- 5 years of Nursing - Emergency Room experience.
- State of Alaska RN Licensure
- BLSP (CPR) from the American Heart Association within 30 days of employment.
- ACLS from the American Heart Association
- PALS from the American Heart Association
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) from the Emergency Nurses Association
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course
- Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in management of critically ill patients in Emergency Department setting.
PREFERRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- 1 year of Nursing Management experience.
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) from the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing.
- Demonstrated aptitude for a leadership role.
