About This Position
Want to help turn the library into the go-to hangout for curious, creative tweens and teens? Warren–Newport Public Library District is seeking a part-time Youth and Teen Engagement Associate (about 18 hours per week) to create engaging programs and activities for tweens and teens.
The starting hourly range is $21.27–$26.23 per hour DOQ.
Schedule
Typical schedule:
Monday through Thursday: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Every other weekend:
Saturday: four-hour shift (between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
(Sunday hours run from Labor Day through Memorial Day and are paid at time and a half.)
What You'll Do
- Greet students personally, facilitate peer introductions, and serve as a positive mentor.
- Lead the Teen Advisory Group (TAG), guiding members in planning and running youth-led projects that influence library services.
- Run daily drop-in activities, such as esports, tabletop games, and STEAM challenges.
- Provide immediate help with library technology and equipment.
- Assist PCE staff as needed to support programming or library-wide initiatives.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive environment through respectful behavior and conflict resolution.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Social Work, Recreation, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Experience
- At least 1–2 years of experience working with youth (ages 9–18) in a classroom, library, or community-based setting.
- Comfortable troubleshooting gaming consoles and basic computer issues.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to connect authentically with both tweens and teens.
- Committed to serving a diverse community with sensitivity and respect. (Spanish language skills a plus).
Work Environment
- This position involves a mix of sitting, standing, and walking and regular interaction with the public.
- The ability to lift and carry materials up to 40 lbs may be required.
