About This Position

Description:

The Wash Bay Operator is responsible for exterior washing of commercial trucks and tanks at the Cayuga Marketing Terminal. This role performs skilled tasks and basic routine maintenance on washing equipment and bays to meet regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Washing Operations:

  • Operate pressure washers, soap sprayers, and brushes to wash exteriors and undercarriages. Degreasing engines as directed.
  • Maintain accurate operation logs and reports, as directed by Transportation Manager. Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cost efficiency and operational effectiveness.
  • Use yard tractor to move tankers in and out of the wash bay or around yard.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on wash bay machinery, including checking hoses, pumps, and chemical levels.

Chemical Handling:

  • Safely mix, apply, and store commercial-grade cleaners, degreasers, and acid washes.
  • Maintain inventory levels of supplies.

Site Maintenance:

  • Conduct routine inspection shop drains.
  • Keep the wash bay, yard, or station clean, organized, and safe.
  • Remove trash from the Cayuga Marketing grounds.
  • Serve as back up for snow removal for foot traffic as needed.

Customer Service & Safety:

  • Inspect trucks for damage, report issues, and follow all safety protocols.
  • Support safety initiatives, review chemical SDS sheets, and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with company policies.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; previous experience in a car wash, detailing or industrial cleaning setting preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain high-pressure cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in a wet environment.
  • Willingness to work up to 12-hour shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Knowledge of connecting and disconnecting tanker trailers from the yard tractor.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures regarding chemical usage and handling.

Working Conditions

  • Work primarily takes place in transportation bays and outdoor environments.
  • Exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, wet and slippery conditions, heights, dust, and chemical vapors.

Equipment Used

  • Personal protective equipment including safety glasses, safety-toed shoes, and uniforms.
  • Standard processing equipment including pressure washers, soap sprayers, and brushes.
  • Office equipment and software for documentation and reporting.

Additional Information

  • This is a full-time, hourly position with additional hours required based on business needs.
  • Some domestic travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate all areas of the facility, including office spaces, bay areas, and the exterior perimeter.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary to safely perform job duties.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and carry out tasks throughout a full shift, with appropriate meal breaks.
  • Physically capable of standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, and crouching as needed.
  • Able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with reasonable accommodations.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to perform job duties accurately.
  • Capable of assessing weights, judging distances, and working at various heights.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. Additional availability on weekends or off shifts as necessary to support a 24/7/365 operation.

Our wage range for this role is determined by various factors, including skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs. It is not typical for an employee to start at or near the top of the range for the position. Compensation decisions are made based on individual job circumstances considering skill level, previous experience, and education requirements.
