Position Overview:
The Real Estate Tax Manager will serve as a key leader within the Real Estate Practice, working with customers across the Carolinas and Tennessee. This role includes managing tax compliance and review for complex real estate engagements, developing and coaching staff, advising customers through evolving industry conditions, and contributing to business growth. You will play a crucial part in shaping the direction and success of the practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and sustain strong customer relationships with major real estate organizations.
- Collaborate with internal teams to solve complex customer scenarios and deliver exceptional service.
- Develop anticipatory advisory skills to guide customers through industry disruption and uncertainty.
- Analyze industry trends and develop forward-thinking solutions for customer needs.
- Perform technical review of tax returns with varying levels of complexity.
- Identify complex issues and recommend innovative tax solutions.
- Delegate and manage tax and research assignments to ensure accurate and efficient results.
- Review operating agreements, LOIs, purchase agreements, and other tax-related documentation.
- Review and develop workpapers supporting partnership allocations and basis adjustments.
- Manage billing, collections, and overall economic performance of engagements.
- Maintain workflow scheduling of tax returns throughout the engagement cycle.
- Lead and motivate team members, providing project guidance and developmental feedback.
- Identify and support growth opportunities for team members; build future leaders.
- Attract, retain, and engage top talent through active coaching and involvement.
- Identify opportunities for expanded services and pursue new business leads.
- Represent the firm within the business community and participate in professional organizations.
- Contribute to local community initiatives and service efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s in Tax preferred.
- 5+ years of recent public accounting experience managing real estate tax engagements.
- Proven experience assigning projects, developing staff, and managing workflow.
- Significant experience with real estate industry taxation, especially partnership structures.
- Strong ability to analyze distribution and profit/loss provisions in Operating Agreements.
- CPA certification required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multitasking skills.
- Strong desire to learn, grow, and adapt in a dynamic environment.
