The Director will manage relationships with brokers, reinsurers, carriers, and alternative capital providers, while collaborating closely with finance, product, strategy, and legal teams. The role requires technical expertise in property and CAT reinsurance structuring, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to provide insights that drive profitability and business growth. The position combines operational management, strategic planning, and market engagement, requiring someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys problem-solving with minimal structure. This is a highly visible role with significant impact on organizational risk management and long-term financial stability.
Accountabilities:- Lead day-to-day ceded reinsurance operations, ensuring effective management of broker and reinsurer relationships.
- Develop and execute reinsurance strategies that optimize spend, reduce EBIT volatility, and support capital efficiency.
- Evaluate and recommend structural reinsurance solutions, including traditional and alternative market placements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, insurance product, strategy, and legal teams to align reinsurance planning with business objectives.
- Maintain and expand relationships with existing and prospective reinsurers, brokers, and alternative capital providers.
- Provide technical expertise and market insights to guide organizational risk management and growth strategies.
- Represent the organization in external engagements, including industry events, negotiations, and market forums.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in ceded reinsurance, including property and CAT reinsurance structuring.
- Bachelors degree in finance, actuarial science, or a related quantitative field; MBA preferred.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in reinsurance program design, broker management, and placement strategies.
- Familiarity with Cat modeling outputs (Verisk Touchstone & RMS RiskLink) and vendor model parameter risk.
- Proven ability to negotiate and place reinsurance programs, including experience with unauthorized or unrated reinsurance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to present complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-starter with high results orientation, adaptability, and resilience in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently both domestically and internationally.
