Position: Maintenance Specialist
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Compensation: $25 to $45 DOE

Overview of role:

The Maintenance Technician Specialist is responsible for providing advanced technical support and expertise in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other critical facility systems. As a specialist, this role requires in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with complex equipment and systems as well as the ability to handle highly specialized maintenance tasks. The Maintenance Technician Specialist will work independently or with a team to ensure optimal system performance and reliability. This role also involves providing guidance and training to other technicians and contributing to developing maintenance strategies and schedules. HEAT TREAT EXPERIENCE IS A MUST

  • Advanced Technical Skills: In-depth expertise in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and control systems.
  • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Ability to quickly identify and resolve complex system failures or performance issues, minimizing downtime.
  • Preventive Maintenance Expertise: Experience developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs to enhance system reliability and extend the lifespan of equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance: Strong understanding of safety standards, including OSHA and EPA regulations, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols during all maintenance activities.
  • Leadership & Mentoring: Ability to lead projects and mentor less experienced technicians, sharing technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Communication & Documentation: Strong communication skills to document maintenance activities and effectively communicate with internal teams, management, and vendors.

Key Deliverables:

  • Perform specialized and complex maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on the facility's mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and control systems.
  • Lead and manage preventive maintenance tasks, ensuring systems run optimally and any potential issues are addressed before they cause downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose advanced technical issues, using specialized tools and equipment to perform accurate repairs.
  • Oversee the installation, setup, and calibration of new systems and equipment, ensuring they function correctly upon activation.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior technicians, sharing knowledge and best practices to improve the team's overall technical skills.
  • Manage and prioritize maintenance requests, ensuring critical systems are attended to promptly while minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Develop and recommend maintenance processes and systems improvements, identifying areas for enhanced reliability or efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, including work orders, repairs, parts used, and system performance.
  • Participate in planning and executing major repairs, upgrades, or installations, ensuring timely completion and adherence to project timelines.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with engineering and other departments to optimize system performance and identify opportunities for upgrades or improvements.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering or a related field is preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in a specialized maintenance role with mechanical, electrical, or HVAC systems expertise.
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairing complex systems and equipment.
  • Proficiency with maintenance management software (CMMS) to track work orders, schedule preventive maintenance, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and OSHA regulations, with the ability to enforce safety practices in the workplace.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to independently address complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting, coordinating, and documenting work performed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification in industrial maintenance, HVAC, electrical systems, or mechanical engineering (e.g., EPA certification, Certified Maintenance Manager, or similar).
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), or advanced control systems.
  • Project management experience, particularly in managing large-scale maintenance or installation projects.
  • Knowledge of energy management systems and sustainability initiatives to improve operational efficiency.

Technology Requirements:

  • Proficiency with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for maintenance scheduling, reporting, and tracking.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools (e.g., vibration analysis tools, thermography cameras, multimeters) and specialized equipment for system testing and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and control systems for managing mechanical and electrical systems is a plus.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and on-call shifts as required.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, and at elevated heights, if necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects effectively.
  • Willingness to continue professional development, including participating in training programs and obtaining additional certifications.
