About This Position
About the Role:
Hours: Full time, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Dates: 7 weeks, Monday-Friday June 15th-July 31. Campus is closed Friday, June 19th and Friday, July 3 for the national holidays.
Pay: Stipend $10,500-$12,000. Lunch included. Also includes free admission to camp for your 3rd-8th grader(s).
Location: All school, but primary office in Middle School
Reports to: School Nurse, Director of Summer Programs and Director of LEEP.
Overview:
As a Summer Programs Nurse, you will play a vital role by improving and implementing health procedures and protocols that enhance the camper experience and ensure safety. This role is perfect for a proactive problem-solver who thrives in dynamic environments and seeks opportunities to create positive change. Your responsibilities will include managing medical forms, providing specific training to personnel, triaging medical needs, and enforcing health-related policies. This role offers room for creativity and innovation. You’ll have the freedom to improve systems, develop new resources, and leave a lasting impact for future nurses and programs.
Responsibilities:
Leading Up to Start of Summer Programs:
Review and approve camper medical forms, ensuring compliance with participation requirements.
Maintain an open line of communication with program teams (LEEP, SS, ILC, Athletics Camps) to ensure accuracy and completion of health records.
Enforce policies regarding camper participation and ensure completion of health forms, medication orders, and action plans before admission to camp.
Distribute critical health information (e.g., life-threatening conditions) to staff and prepare the Health Room for medication storage and emergencies.
Develop and implement procedures for medical documentation, medication management, and communication across programs.
Be present at employee training sessions to ensure there is an overview of understanding for campers with life-threatening conditions and review emergency locations of supplies. All employees will be CPR/First Aid trained.
Use August Schools, CampBrain, and paper documentation to manage student health documentation.
During Summer Programs:
Provide triage and medical care for camper needs, with special attention to younger populations in specific camps.
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians about camper health concerns.
Be available to transition between campuses, during regularly scheduled hours, for urgent health concerns. Adapt staffing schedules to meet the unique demands of each program or activity.
Ensure all necessary medications accompany field trip groups, refining and implementing a system for medication administration outside of campus.
Continuously assess the effectiveness of health protocols, making real-time adjustments to ensure the safety and well-being of campers and staff.
Support school-year nurses with compliance, as time allows.
Involve themselves in the life of summer programs (i.e. attending camp morning meeting, creating a bulletin board, serving as a guest speaker in a class, attending field trips).
Engage in professional learning or creative projects that strengthen student wellness, improve camp systems, or support future nurses.
Medication Administration:
Administer daily medication (often for ADD/ADHD medications)
Administer PRN medication with proper documentation and approval
Train and oversee unlicensed school personnel (USP) to administer medications safely when the RN is unavailable.
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse (RN) license in WA.
Active CPR/First Aid certification.
Experience in pediatric nursing or school health preferred.
Strong organizational skills and a creative mindset for solving problems and streamlining processes.
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing medication administration in educational settings.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ensuring the well-being of campers and staff.
Compensation and Benefits
The stipend for this position is $10,500-$12,000. Lunch is included.
