About This Position
Position Summary
Under limited supervision, the Senior Fixed Asset Accountant performs complex accounting tasks for the Accounting Department. The primary responsibility is to ensure timely and accurate accounting for project costs and fixed assets. This position is under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
FIXED ASSET ACCOUNTING
- Maintain and reconcile fixed asset records including additions, retirements, and transfers.
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts; prepares and enters various related journal entries; prepares year-end reports for audit.
- Responsible for related balance sheet reconciliations and process development within the department.
- Assists in reviewing, interpreting, and correcting all information in the fixed asset and construction work in progress system.
- Works with various financial and external auditors with respect to project and audit preparations.
- Works with Engineering and Project Managers to resolve questions related to job/project costs.
- Able to communicate the understanding and role of the Fixed Asset Accounting and related processes within the organization.
- Assists in formulating accounting policy and procedures involved in the tracking of job costs and maintenance of property, plant and equipment records.
- Ability to cover all Fixed Asset Accounting duties during absence of other in group.
- Provides direction and mentors the Fixed Asset Accountant.
CAPITAL BUDGET
- Assists with preparation and review of annual capital budgets for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain capital work orders in the system.
- Compare actual to budgeted results and report variances with department managers.
OTHER ACCOUNTING FUNCTIONS
- Prepares regular and special reports for management, the Board of Trustees and outside organizations.
- Assists with year-end audit; prepared end of the year reports.
- Assist with documentation for FEMA claims.
- Assists Accounting Supervisor and/or Manager with special reports.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain regular attendance; leave schedule should be managed so as to not interfere with ability to accomplish tasks, including special projects and assignments with deadlines
- Adhere to NBU safety guidelines and practices at all times and in all situations
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, office, field site and vehicle as applicable
- Maintain strict confidentiality of business, employee and customer information in written and oral communications and safeguard sensitive documents

Formal Education and Work Experience Requirements
Degree/Diploma Obtained: Bachelors
Work Experience Time Frame: Five (5) Years or More
Field of Study: Accounting
Other: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business-Related Field.
In lieu of a degree, five (5) years of relevant of experience may suffice.

Other Minimum Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting related to financial, cost, and fixed asset policies, procedures and regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply basic accounting principles.
- Technical ability is sufficient to analyze, design, and create various analytical or statistical reports as directed.
- Ability to produce correspondence, reports, user-friendly spreadsheets, databases, and other documents that are accurate and clearly understood.
- Ability to communicate effectively so that information is clearly understood by recipient.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines without close supervision
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
