Position Summary

This role will collaborate closely with technologists, other engineers, production teams, and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for creating detailed electrical designs and technical documentation, producing and validating prototype equipment, and providing ongoing support throughout the product lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have experience in either electrical, electronic or controls design, electrical drafting, product development, industrial standards, and a familiarity with industrial machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and product validation of:
    • Fan/blower/compressor/pump, engine/motor, and generator powertrains supporting industrial air compressors, oxygen concentrators, liquid-gas mass transfer systems, and more
    • VFD and other motor drive systems
    • Electrical wiring, harnesses, and sensor arrays supporting the above systems
    • Electrical enclosures, internal component layouts, and general industrial control panels
    • Industrial automation solutions including PLC programming and HMI development
    • PCBs and associated embedded systems
    • Systems utilizing industrial communication buses, J1939, CAN and Modbus
  • Create and modify electrical designs and drawings using CAD packages and simulation tools as required.
  • Prepare and maintain BOMs (Bill of Materials), manufacturing documentation, and other forms of technical documentation.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to company standards, client requirements, and industry regulations.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of design changes and version control for production teams.
  • Work with production, service, and application teams to ensure manufacturability and ease of assembly.
  • Assist in troubleshooting design and fabrication issues.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance design efficiency, reduce costs, and improve performance.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback for product development improvements.
  • Support additional design, documentation, and technical tasks as required.
  • Travel to client facilities and client support in equipment trials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in electrical design and drafting, preferably in manufacturing or product development.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or eligible for registration in Canada.
  • Proficiency with and ability to learn CAD and electrical simulation packages.
  • Strong understanding of electrical component fundamentals, workshop fabrication practices, and soldering.
  • Ability to interpret engineering sketches, technical specifications, and client requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with engineers, production teams, and clients.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with any of the systems listed for “Design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and product validation” as a key responsibility.
  • Design for manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with real-time control systems with sensor data and IoT cloud connectivity.
  • Proficiency with electronics test equipment, oscilloscopes, signal generators, multi-meters, and power supplies.
  • Familiarity with IP/Ethernet networking.
  • Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal and associated software.
  • Experience with 240 to 600 VAC motor/generator drive systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering standards (e.g., CSA, TSBC, CE) relating to the construction of industrial machinery.
  • Experience operating in or designing for a marine environment.
