Assistant Estimator / Take-Off

Assistant Estimator Drive Accuracy and Strategy in Mechanical Project Bidding

Job Overview:

  • Company: Conditioned Air Systems Inc.

  • Salary/Pay Rate: $40,000 - $60,000 (Based on experience).

  • Location: Onsite / Office - Gainesville, GA

  • Job/Employment Type: Full-Time.

  • Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (Some weekends and overtime during peak months).

  • Project Scope: HVAC / Mechanical (Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Government or Federal)

  • Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: None Required.

The Opportunity: You will play a pivotal role in the pre-construction phase by transforming complex blueprints into precise data that drives our competitive bidding process. Working alongside the Lead Estimator, you will have the chance to impact multi-million-dollar mechanical projects while developing deep expertise in HVAC and piping systems. This position offers a direct path to influence company growth through strategic analysis and technical precision.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Execute detailed piping and duct take-offs using specialized software to establish accurate material and labor foundations.

  • Analyze structural and mechanical plans, including 2D and 3D drawings, to identify project scope and non-standard conditions.

  • Update and maintain the estimating database to reflect current supplier price increases and market trends.

  • Collaborate with the Lead Estimator to develop winning bidding strategies and evaluate subcontractor proposals.

  • Compare estimated costs against actual project outcomes to identify discrepancies and recommend process improvements.

  • Coordinate with the bidding team during solicitations and pre-bid walk-throughs to ensure all requirements are met.

  • Prepare final estimate packages with meticulous attention to detail to ensure 100% accuracy before formal quotations.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural, structural, and mechanical plans.

  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.

  • Solid understanding of mechanical system terminology for HVAC, plumbing, or industrial piping.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high sense of urgency.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Prior experience with take-off software such as Fast Pipe or Fast Duct.

  • Previous exposure to multi-million-dollar mechanical or construction project estimating.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD software and mechanical system sizing/calculations.

  • Experience in layout and sizing for duct and pipe systems when documents are incomplete.
