About This Position
PURPOSE OF JOB: Provides primary healthcare, within given limits of level of training, standing orders, and scope of practice including preventive, acute and emergency care to residents of an assigned village within the Bristol Bay region.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be high school graduate or have GED certificate or equivalent.
- Achieves a score on the standardized Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Level D, indicating eighth grade level competence in applied math, math computation, and reading.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Prefer ability to speak local native language.
- Resides in assigned community or sub region.
- Able to leave the home community for periods of 1 to 6 weeks or more for training.
- Able to provide year-round coverage of clinic hours.
- If assigned to a specific village, recommended by the Traditional Village Council of the assigned village.
- Must successfully pass the pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Must receive all immunizations and successfully complete all testing required for attending Session Training.
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements of Session Training including travel by air, extended time away from home, and full participation in activities including blood draws, injections, and IVs both as a caregiver in training and as a subject.
- Must work in other village clinics for limited times.
- Must be available for ETT training, Pre-session, Session I training and other training and meetings as directed by BBAHC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- May not provide patient care unless under supervision of a senior Health Aide.
- documentation is only created for training purposes and must be done either on paper PEFs or under Demo patient in the electronic health record (EHR).
- May not take emergency call. May gain experience by going on emergency calls with other qualified CHA/P.
- May respond to emergency call as a first responder under ETT/EMT certification. Documentation for these rare instances should be done on the EMS Run Sheet.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Hours of work will vary from part time to full time depending on training level, training schedule, and established village clinic hours. Physical demands of the job require vision, hearing, touch, manual dexterity, health, and strength that will accommodate the following activities:
- Frequent and extensive handwriting and data entry, the use of medical devices and the use of electronic communication devices such as telephone, radio, fax, telemed, and computer.
- Repetitive motions of hands, wrists, and arms.
- Frequent travel in un-pressurized aircraft, private vehicles, small boats, snowmobiles, or all-terrain vehicles in all weather conditions.
- Frequent light reaching, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling (0-20 pounds).
Occasional moderate to heavy pushing, pulling, or lifting (20-50 pounds or more).
- High potential for exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and other body products.
- High potential for exposure to hazardous situations.

SUPERVISED BY: Administrative supervision for CHA's assigned to a specific village is provided by the CHAP Assistant Manager supervising the village clinic.
