Supervisor - Cath Lab

Description POSITION SUMMARY: Responsibilities include but are not limited to plan, organize, lead and evaluate all aspects of the Cardiac Cath Lab in order to provide quality diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in a safe efficient environment. The Cath Lab Supervisor provides direct clinical supervision, guidance, and support to nursing and technical staff in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. This role ensures smooth daily operations, staff coordination, and adherence to high standards of patient safety and clinical quality.

Essential Job Functions

  • Hires, trains and schedules all technical staff to perform all procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
  • Develops a system with procedures for the care and maintenance of department equipment.
  • Identifies problems and develops procedures to assure quality patient care and smooth flowing operations.
  • Develops/Maintains departmental policy and procedures
  • Maintains high personnel standards through continuing education and inservice programs..
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Advises and assists Administration and the Medical Staff in developing new systems and acquiring new equipment.
  • Promotes good communication between staff, physicians, Administration and other departments.
  • Attends regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Maintains accurate patient records within the department.
  • Responsible for written evaluation of each staff member at least yearly.
  • Takes disciplinary action when necessary, up to and including termination of employees.
  • Maintains awareness and participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) to ensure a safe patient environment.
  • Attends and actively participates in team conferences and staff meetings.
  • Participates actively in orientation and on-the-job training of assigned personnel.
  • Adheres to all JCAHO standards, Department of Health Services (DHS) regulations and any other regulatory agency.
  • Performs all tasks demonstrating service orientation to fellow employees and staff members to provide excellent customer service
  • Clinical Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support staff in providing patient care during all Cath Lab procedures.


  • Serve as an expert resource for troubleshooting clinical and technical issues.

    Ensure adherence to infection control, safety protocols, and hospital policies.

    Staff Support & Coordination Responsibilities Coordinate daily case assignments based on patient needs and staff competencies.

    Collaborate and coordinate with physicians on add-on cases.

    Provide mentorship, training, and guidance to new and existing staff members.

    Ensure proper staff coverage for cases and communicate workflow needs to the Nurse Manager.

    Support a team-based environment that promotes collaboration and accountability.

    Operational Responsibilities Oversee daily clinical workflow to maintain efficiency and minimize delays.

    Assist in equipment troubleshooting and ensure readiness for procedures.

    Coordinate scheduling.

    Oversee scheduling for Cath lab, EP and prep/recovery areas

    Assist with Cath lab inventory management.

    Collaborate with the Nurse Manager on staffing, supply needs, and process improvement initiatives.

    Quality & Performance Responsibilities Monitor patient care quality and escalate concerns as appropriate.

    Participate in performance improvement and staff competency evaluations.

    Provide input to the Nurse Manager regarding staff performance and development needs.

    Ensure compliance with hospital standards, safety requirements, and best practices.

  • Associates Degree Required. Bachelor's preferred. Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist credential or ARRT required. A minimum of 2 years experience in Cardiac Cath Lab required. Previous management experience preferred. BLS and ACLS required.
