Position Summary
The Buyer is responsible for purchasing materials and services to support operational requirements. This role supports procurement activities including supplier coordination, quote evaluation, purchase order management, and tracking of materials. The Buyer I also assists with supplier database maintenance and other purchasing-related functions to ensure efficiency and timely delivery of materials and services.
Domestic travel may be required.
Essential Functions
o Performs price solicitations, evaluates quotations, and issues purchase orders to support operational requirements
o Manages and tracks open purchase orders and long lead materials to ensure timely delivery
o Maintains supplier database and supports supplier relationship management
o Collaborates with internal departments and develops strategies to improve purchasing efficiency and meet project deadlines
o Other duties as assigned
Requirements:Required Skills:
o Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain supplier and stakeholder relationships
o Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
o Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
o Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
o Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
o Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awareness
Education and Experience
o Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
o Buyer or procurement experience in a Marine, construction or related industry experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, reach and type; stoop or kneel; and speak or hear. The position is primarily performed in a quiet, climate-controlled environment with minimal exposure to moving equipment, elements, or risk of injury. When entering the shipyard, there may be exposure to moving equipment, elements, or risk of injury.
