About This Position
This on-site position is located in Wilmington, Delaware. The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington is seeking an Administrative Assistant/Pre-Cana Coordinator, reporting to the Director of the Office for Religious Education, who will serve as the first point of contact for the Office for Religious Education, Marriage and Family Life, and Respect Life. This position provides support and strengthens the Diocesan Marriage and Family efforts, programs, and ministries of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington. The ideal candidate will have the ability to educate and communicate the Church teachings on marriage and family life both positively and compassionately.
The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, and may require occasional availability outside of regular business hours, as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain appropriate office flow by performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks.
- Prepare and organize materials for meetings and events, make necessary meeting arrangements, and provide support for Director as needed for a variety of projects.
- Manage office finances and maintain inventory and supplies.
- Coordinate the diocesan marriage preparation program, marriage enrichments and marriage support programs. Communicate with content providers and develop family-related resources and programming for use in the Diocese.
- Through relationships with parish staff throughout the Diocese, encourage, support, and coordinate diocesan initiatives that support family life and marriage enrichment.
- Provide direct support to priests, deacons, and the lay faithful regarding the diocesan marriage preparation program.
- Recruit and train mentor couples for the marriage preparation program.
- Review marriage preparation programs on an on-going basis, and offer suggestions for improvement based on evaluations, presenting couples’ suggestions, trends, and the Bishops’ and USCCB initiatives.
- Assist with the preparation of the Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass and the Annual Footprints Mass.
- Promote and provide resources for Natural Family Planning (NFP).
- Other duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma with three years of experience in a progressively responsible administrative or secretarial position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Practicing Catholic able to witness to and regularly participate in the sacramental life of the community.
- Strong understanding of and commitment to Church teachings on marriage and family life.
- Ability to educate and communicate Church teachings on marriage and family life both positively and compassionately.
- Demonstrated computer experience with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office/365, email applications, and the ability to learn other software programs as needed.
- Ability to effectively conduct virtual meetings via Zoom.
- Strong organizational skills and a focus on details, accuracy, and consistency.
- Excellent communications and writing skills.
- Ability to travel throughout the footprint of the Diocese of Wilmington as needed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality while working with confidential/sensitive materials, information, and data.
- Willingness to consent to a criminal background check and drug screening in accordance with applicable laws.
- An understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington.
