This role offers a strategic leadership opportunity to shape and grow the medical devices product assessment function across North America. You will lead technical file reviews, mentor and train product assessors, and ensure the highest quality standards are met while supporting operational efficiency and business expansion. The role requires coordination across sales, auditing, and client service teams to deliver superior client outcomes. You will drive process improvements, implement best practices, and provide technical guidance on complex inquiries and compliance matters. The position balances strategic influence with hands-on operational oversight, offering visibility into business growth initiatives and performance metrics. Travel of up to 25% may be required, including some international engagements.

Accountabilities:

As Technical Director, Product Assessor, you will lead the development and sustainability of the medical devices assessment business while ensuring technical excellence and operational efficiency:

  • Conduct comprehensive medical device technical file/documentation reviews with high utilization and accuracy.

  • Train, mentor, and onboard new product assessors to maintain a skilled and knowledgeable team.

  • Perform observation and witness assessments to ensure compliance and continuous qualification standards.

  • Support process and systems development to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with key account specialists to ensure timely technical documentation reviews and high client satisfaction.

  • Manage client inquiries, complaints, and technical escalations, providing actionable resolutions.

  • Identify growth opportunities, contribute to business expansion strategies, and track progress against milestones.

  • Maintain expertise in industry standards, regulations, and certification processes to guide team and client interactions.

  • Deliver and support training programs, ensuring alignment with global and local procedures.

Requirements:

Candidates should combine deep technical knowledge in medical devices with leadership, operational, and analytical capabilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sciences, Engineering, Operations, or related discipline.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in medical devices testing, inspection, or certification, including 3–5 years of supervisory experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in English; French skills are a plus.

  • Strong understanding of medical device standards, regulations, and certification requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced environments while maintaining high-quality output.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong customer service orientation with proven ability to resolve complaints and technical inquiries.

  • Analytical skills to interpret financial indicators, assess P&L, and drive performance metrics.

  • Leadership and coaching abilities to motivate teams and promote accountability and innovation.

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to leverage technical tools for reporting and analysis.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, including occasional international trips.
