About This Position
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Staff Simulation Physicist - Ion Transport and Waveform Design in United States.
This role offers a unique opportunity to lead advanced research in ion transport and waveform design for next-generation quantum computing systems. You will collaborate across experimental, commercial, and architectural teams to drive simulation-informed innovation, optimize ion transport, and deliver control waveforms critical to quantum processor performance. The position combines hands-on numerical modeling, experimental validation, and mentorship of junior scientists in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and technically cutting-edge environment. This role is ideal for those passionate about shaping the future of quantum computing while working with a multidisciplinary team committed to solving some of the world’s most complex problems. Flexible work arrangements, including remote and hybrid options, allow you to contribute from anywhere in the U.S.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance numerical simulation tools for ion transport in RF Paul traps.
- Collaborate with experimental teams to validate simulations and refine physical models.
- Design novel control schemes to enable fast, robust, and low-excitation ion transport.
- Deliver precise control voltage waveforms for trapped-ion quantum computers.
- Work closely with trap designers to integrate innovative transport techniques into next-generation systems.
- Mentor and guide junior scientists on simulation methods and ion transport physics.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives, ensuring simulation insights inform experimental and architectural decisions.
Requirements:
- PhD in atomic physics, quantum information, or a related discipline.
- 13+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including 5+ years in quantum computing.
- Expertise in numerical simulation, optimization, and data analysis to inform experimental design.
- Proficiency in programming and scientific computing, preferably using compiled languages such as Rust, C, or C++.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional engagement.
- Preferred: 7+ years of experience with RF Paul trap design, ion transport optimization, or waveform design in surface-electrode traps.
- Familiarity with call center/data center infrastructure and quantum architectures is a plus.
Benefits:
- Competitive base salary range: $167,808 - $219,704, plus bonus and equity.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.
- Matching 401(k) retirement plan.
- Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid company holidays.
- Parental/adoption leave and support programs.
- Home technology stipend and other remote work support.
- Flexible work arrangements, including remote, hybrid, or onsite options.
- Professional development and learning opportunities.
