SUMMARY:

This is an Exempt position. The Assistant Director of Hunger Services assists in the planning, direction, and evaluation of hunger relief programs at the MLK Community Center and its satellite location. This person is responsible for ensuring efficient daily operations and fostering a positive work environment for volunteers and staff. Manages the Hunger Services staff in all tasks and responsibilities to guarantee all programs are running smoothly.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Helps to plan and oversee the execution of all hunger services programming, with a hands-on approach to leadership.
  • Works with the Director of Hunger Services to coordinate with outside agencies, including coordinating with food banks and local vendors for food procurement and deliveries.
  • Guides staff and volunteers in maintaining Food Pantry inventory and stocking, with attention to detail and food safety.
  • Ensure that the Hunger Services team is performing the essential responsibilities of their positions.
  • Provides active, on-the-ground support to the Hunger Services team during all program operating hours to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Delegates other routine assignments to ensure comprehensive coverage of Center-wide needs.
  • Demonstrates expert-level knowledge of all Hunger Services programs to provide guidance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure service continuity.
  • Innovates new initiatives or modifies existing programs for the betterment of the community.
  • Performs other duties at the discretion of the Director of Hunger Services or Executive Director

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position acts as a conduit between staff operations and the Director of Hunger Services oversight.

Qualifications:

  • Two years of related experience.
  • Experience managing a diverse team of employees.
  • Employment contingent upon successful background screening.
  • Computer Skills required:
    • Database Software
    • Spreadsheet Software (Excel)
    • Word Processing Software (Word)
    • Electronic Mail Software (Outlook)
  • Other skills required:
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
