Full Time
Day Shift
Compensation: $36,200K - $52,800K

Position Summary

Process pre-registration and registration for patients visiting the outpatient clinic.

Provides clerical support to the clinic and physician practice, ensuring patient records, schedules and billing are efficiently handled and recorded.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient registration and pre-registration by entering comprehensive registration data set into the hospital system, interviewing patients in person or by telephone to secure demographic, clinical and financial information. Prepare necessary forms for providers to ensure proper billing. Evaluates demographic and financial data for potential problems or financial risk, works to resolve these problems with medical staff and financial counselors.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility via telephone or online program to initiate pre-registration, registration process and authorization for service. Acts as cashier and collects payments from patients covering copays and self-pays. Issues receipts and is responsible for balancing individual cash bags at the beginning and end of the shift. Cash out physicians at the end of their respective clinics by providing them with the currency and receipts collected for their clinics.
  • Creates new and maintains existing department-specific electronic medical records. Performs clerical duties related to the patient record, including scanning pertinent information into the permanent electronic medical record. Collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Schedules and coordinates patient appointments. Coordinates ancillary service appointments, including but not limited to lab, radiology and audiology.
  • Answers telephone, takes messages, directs calls as appropriate. Operates PC, photocopy and Fax machines.
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services.

Position Requirements

  • Able to communicate in both English and Spanish required
  • Previous clerical, reception, admitting or registration work preferred
  • Able to type a minimum of 30wpm
  • Must be organized, able to multitask
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills required.
  • Course work related to medical terminology preferred
  • Excellent telephone skills
  • Able to prioritize work efficiently
