Summary:

The Dean of Academics fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by working with administration in the management of academics and special programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Assists in planning for staff development, curriculum, educational textbooks and materials, and student testing
  • Oversees school-wide testing to include NWEA and ARK
  • Maintains documentation of instructional planning including teacher lesson plans
  • Interprets and enforces school policies
  • Assists with faculty and other meetings
  • Communicates effectively with teachers, students, and parents
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
  • Monitors students regarding tardiness, absences, and those on academic probation
  • Observes and evaluates instruction and provides constructive feedback
  • Supports the preparation of handbooks
  • Initiates and oversees the referral process for student evaluation within the campus and the public school system
  • Oversee events that proactively nurture a positive academic culture to include quarterly academic awards
  • Ensure robust and effective data-driven student support
  • Provide oversight of student intervention systems of support
  • Coordinate summer academic programming
  • Implements and oversees CAAC academic and fine arts contests to ensure full participation
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • A Master’s degree, or participating in a Master’s degree program, and 18 credit hours in educational administration, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.

Experience

  • Three years of experience as a classroom teacher

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development
  • Thorough understanding of school operations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate campus support operations working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures to interpret data
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
  • Knowledge of child development, learning and behavior
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Able to work well with others in a school community
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skill in job appropriate technology
  • Skill in critical thinking and planning

Travel Requirements:

  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
  • Required to work a minimum a full school day
  • Required to work in standard office and school conditions
