This role focuses on ensuring the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicle systems as they are deployed in real-world operations. You will develop and maintain comprehensive safety cases, assess hazards, and verify system compliance with industry standards such as ISO26262 and SOTIF. The position requires cross-functional collaboration with hardware, software, and regulatory teams to ensure robust fault management, redundancy, and operational safety. You will also act as a liaison with auditors and regulators while documenting and validating safety processes. The environment is fast-paced, mission-critical, and centered on cutting-edge autonomous technology, providing the opportunity to directly impact safer transportation solutions. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
- Develop, review, and maintain safety cases for autonomous vehicle systems across multiple Operational Design Domains (ODDs).
- Evaluate scenarios and safety use cases, ensuring alignment with automotive safety integrity levels (ASIL) and mitigation strategies.
- Assess hazard analyses, risk assessments, and system requirements for correctness, completeness, and compliance.
- Audit system and software architectures, verifying redundancy, failover, fault management, and resource partitioning.
- Conduct confirmation audits of safety processes, verifying results and validating evidence packages for consistency and standards alignment.
- Serve as a liaison with third-party safety auditors and regulatory authorities, preparing audit reports and compliance matrices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in software, electrical, mechanical, or related engineering, or equivalent professional experience in a high-tech environment.
- 5+ years in safety engineering, reliability engineering, or autonomous systems engineering, with experience in Level 4 autonomous vehicles.
- Hands-on experience with fault management, redundancy architectures, and safety mechanisms.
- Knowledge of ISO26262, SOTIF, UL4600, SAE J3187, ASPICE, or similar safety standards.
- Strong auditing, documentation, and communication skills to interface with teams, regulators, and auditors.
- Experience with project management for complex systems and familiarity with statistical or probabilistic approaches to safety risk is desirable.
