This role partners closely with the Controller to lead key aspects of the month‑end and year‑end close, support and develop the accounting team, ensure GAAP compliance, and deliver meaningful insights to leadership. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Management & ReportingOversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, reconciliations, and cash flow statements.Ensure accuracy and timeliness of month‑end and year‑end close processes.Research, resolve, and troubleshoot discrepancies to ensure compliance and reporting accuracy.May assist with processing bi-weekly payroll using ADP Workforce Now’s Comprehensive Payroll solution. Assist in developing and executing the company’s accounting strategies in alignment with organizational objectives.Provide financial insights and recommendations to the Controller, CFO, and senior leadership.Compliance, Controls & AuditsEnsure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and any applicable industry‑specific regulations (including travel-industry standards).Prepare and submit compliance filings such as business licenses and annual filings.Support and coordinate annual external audits by providing documentation, responses, and analysis.Identify, assess, and help mitigate financial risks.Leadership & Team DevelopmentLead, mentor, and support accounting team members, including overseeing training and ongoing development.Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.Support new hire training for staff accountants and provide ongoing guidance as needed.Process Improvement & Operational EfficiencyIdentify opportunities for automation and process improvements across the accounting function.Implement best practices to enhance accuracy, consistency, and operational efficiency.Conduct in‑depth analysis or internal audits to identify cost efficiencies and present findings to management.Assist with special projects or cross‑departmental initiatives as needed REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIESThorough knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting.Proficiency in financial systems (NetSuite required) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.Some payroll experience desired- multi-state and wage & hour compliance knowledge a plus. Effective leadership, team management, and people development skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Strong organizational and time‑management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize and multitask effectively.Remote Work Expectations:Able to maintain productivity in a professional home setting with minimal distractions.Requires reliable internet, consistent communication with leadership, and—when applicable—dependable childcare or eldercare arrangements.Must uphold confidentiality standards for all company and people‑related information.Professional Expectations:Maintains a professional and tidy appearance (virtually or in person) during meetings and calls. EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONA minimum of 7 (seven) years of progressive accounting experience with a minimum of 4 (four) years of leadership experience; travel or related industry experience is a plus.Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.CPA preferred.Demonstrated success with month-end, year-end close practices, financial analysis, audits, and team leadership.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to receive and setup company laptop, 15” monitor, keyboard, headset, and mouse (all less than 5-lbs each). Ability to work in a primary stationary job from a laptop computer (ability to accurately type, read, review, write, etc.).Ability to speak English clearly, in a friendly manner, and at an appropriate volume over the company’s provided phone system, Microsoft Teams, or in person as needed.Ability to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.Approximately 40% of travel (domestic and international) is required to attend industry and company events, home office, and/or meetings.
