About This Position

A Forensic Auto Mechanic is responsible for investigating, analyzing, traffic control systems and reconstructing vehicular collisions. Duties include analyzing work zone traffic control plans, traffic signal timing plans, and traffic control devices, as they relate to single and multiple vehicle collisions. Prepare and present demonstrative diagrams, charts, and analyses of the relation of the transportation system to the collision. May also inspect and analyze automotive or mechanical parts for the origin and cause of failure. Document and preserve evidence obtained and prepare written reports of findings.
Job Duties:
· Reconstructing vehicular collisions using analysis and test data where appropriate.
· Providing collision scene evidence analysis and forensic mapping of collision sites and vehicles.
· Analyzing single and multiple vehicle collisions, and intersection traffic signal analysis. etc.
· Inspecting damaged vehicles for mechanical defects or failures including analyzing braking systems, steering, suspension, tires, and electronics and identifying pre-existing mechanical issues vs crash-related damage
· Performing accident reconstruction which includes but not limited to determining vehicle speed, impact angle, and collision sequence, analyzing skid marks, crash damage, and scene evidence and using software and measurements to reconstruct accident scenarios
· Collecting accident scene evidence including documenting vehicle damage with photos and measurements, retrieving data from vehicle event data recorders (“black boxes”) and maintaining proper evidence chain for clients.
· Preparing reports including written detailed forensic reports explaining findings, providing technical analysis for insurance or legal teams and preparing diagrams and reconstruction models.
· Performing other duties as assigned by manager.
Equipment:
The essential functions of this position require daily use of a computer, cell phone, and motor vehicle. A laptop, digital video camera, voice recorder and other investigative tools will be provided. The specialist must provide a suitable vehicle.
Environmental Factors: The functions of this position are performed at specific onsite locations throughout the investigators serviced area.
Minimum Qualifications:
· ASE Certification(s)
· Prior experience with accident reconstruction
· Professional/industry working experience in traffic engineering.
· Prior experience with case management systems
· Ability to proactively conduct follow-ups as needed
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Preferred qualifications include; Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR),PTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification
