This role leads the strategy and execution of all financial aspects of cloud operations within a high-growth SaaS environment. The Director will partner across Engineering, Finance, Product, and Operations to ensure cloud spend drives measurable value, operational efficiency, and scalability. You will manage a team of FinOps analysts and engineers, translating cloud usage data into actionable business insights, establishing governance, and automating cost management processes. This position requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution, balancing cloud economics with technical performance, while fostering a culture of accountability and financial discipline. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities, making decisions that directly impact business growth, margin, and scalability.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive cloud financial management framework, including forecasting, budgeting, cost allocation, and unit economics
- Lead cloud cost optimization programs, implementing initiatives like reserved commitments, right-sizing, idle resource elimination, and chargeback models
- Partner with Engineering and Product teams to integrate cost visibility into operations through dashboards, KPIs, and reporting
- Establish governance and controls around cloud spend, including tagging standards, approval workflows, and contract reviews
- Provide executive reporting and insights on cost trends, savings progress, risk of overruns, and trade-offs between cost, performance, and growth
- Hire, mentor, and manage a high-performing FinOps team, setting strategy and measuring effectiveness across the organization
- Support major initiatives such as M&A, product launches, and cloud migrations by modeling financial impact and forecasting scenarios
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering required; advanced degrees preferred
- 10–15 years of experience in cloud financial management, cost optimization, or technology finance; 5+ years in a leadership role managing cross-functional teams
- Proven experience establishing and maturing FinOps practices, including governance, cost-allocation, showback/chargeback, and optimization programs
- Deep knowledge of public-cloud pricing and billing models (AWS, Azure, GCP) with experience optimizing reserved instances and savings plans
- Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and reporting skills, connecting cloud spend to business metrics and unit economics
- Expertise in cloud-cost management tools and automation initiatives, including tagging enforcement, anomaly detection, and real-time spend governance
- Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking, communication, and cross-functional influence skills
