About This Position
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer – Machine Design to design and develop machines for automated processes, high-speed pick-and-place applications, and robotics applications. This role is responsible for conceptual design through production launch and works closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, manufacturable, and efficient machine solutions that meet project requirements and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop innovative machine solutions for automated manufacturing and robotics applications.
- Perform mechanical design analysis to ensure designs meet functional, performance, and project requirements.
- Analyze manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to eliminate friction points through automation or robotics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and project objectives.
- Conduct feasibility studies and review technical specifications to ensure design viability and functionality.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, routings, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering change notices (ECNs).
- Support prototyping and manufacturing phases by overseeing mechanical design implementation and assembly.
- Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
- Support manufacturing operations by providing technical expertise and necessary documentation by utilizing CAD toolset.
- Assist with product documentation, operating instructions, and technical literature development.
- Collaborate with the M&R team on new development with our vendors and partners by supporting processes in the Mandarin and/or Cantonese language.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of experience in custom machine design, with demonstrated success designing complex machinery.
- Bilingual in English as well as Mandarin and/or Cantonese.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and design standards, including Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Proficiency with 3D CAD systems (PTC Creo preferred).
- Experience with sheet metal design and 2D AutoCAD.
- Experience preparing engineering documentation, including drawings, BOM structures, and engineering change management.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Design & Technical Skills
- Proficiency in 3D solid modeling.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with machine motion components, including bearings, gears, shafts, gearboxes, motors, sprockets, belts, and pneumatic components.
- Understanding manufacturing processes such as welding, sheet metal fabrication, machining, and heat treatment.
- Working knowledge of machine control components, including servo motors, vision systems, sensors, and PLCs.
- Demonstrated sound decision-making abilities.

- Collaboration with production teams, suppliers, and engineering peers throughout the project lifecycle.
