Pitt Digital is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the Center for Excellence in Digital Education team. In this role, you will design and implement cloud-based data pipelines that connect enrollment CRM systems, digital marketing platforms, web analytics tools & student information systems into a unified trusted data environment.
This is a pipeline-first engineering role. You will assist in architecting how data flows from source systems into our Snowflake data warehouse, ensuring marketing, enrollment, IT & academic stakeholders can access clean, reliablee & timely data. Collaborate closely with analysts, marketers, enrollment managers & IT teams to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable, maintainable infrastructure. Design and maintain robust ETL pipelines to ingest performance data from Meta, Reddit, Google Ads and other marketing-based APIs
Required Technical Requirements:
Proficiency with Snowflake (SQL, stored procedures, dynamic tables, streams/tasks) or comparable cloud data warehouse
Proficiency in Python and SQL for pipeline development and data transformation
Experience integrating data from CRM systems, enrollment management platforms, digital marketing platforms and/or web analytics tools
Experience with Google Analytics 4;
BigQuery;
GCP (Google Cloud Platform); and
AWS (App Flow, Lamdas)
Understanding of data modeling, dimensional design & modern data lakehouse architectures
Expertise in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., GitHub Actions, Terraform)
Familiarity with data governance considerations in higher education contexts (FERPA compliance, institutional data policies)
Preferred Technical Requirements:
Experience with digital marketing data concepts: attribution modeling, UTM tracking, campaign performance data, funnel analysis
- Familiarity with enrollment funnel metrics and how they map to data infrastructure (inquiries, applications, admits, enrollments)
- Strong experience with AWS data services (DMS, Glue, S3, EventBridge) or equivalent cloud pipeline tooling
- Experience with data observability and quality monitoring tools
- Experience with AI/ML data pipeline requirements and feature engineering

Evaluates business requirements, creates advanced data ingestion processes and modeling, and provides extensive support for databases and relevant services. Designs new data architectures. Ensures data quality and delivery. Trains and assists lower-level data engineers; often serves as team lead. Supports data analysts and scientists with expert-level research and consulting.
Essential Functions
Must have the ability to work with PC equipment and related hardware/software and telephony video-conferencing systems. Must have good written and verbal communication skills, as well as, analytical, organizational, planning, and strong leadership skills. Must have a proficient knowledge of IT.
Physical Effort
Generally sedentary desk work with computer-keyboardvideo phone other than traveling to other buildings on campus for meetings/events on occasion. Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
