Installation Team Foreman – Maritime Sheet Metal Fitter - Drug Free Workplace
The Installation Foreman leads skilled sheet metal and mechanical installation crews aboard vessels of varying size and class. This hands‑on role requires strong technical expertise in marine mechanical installations, sheet metal, HVAC, and habitability systems. The Foreman is responsible for planning, executing, and inspecting shipboard mechanical work while upholding safety, quality, and schedule requirements.

Primary Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, train, mentor, and supervise installation crews performing sheet metal fitting, mechanical installation, HVAC, habitability, and galley system work.
- Assign daily tasks, allocate labor and tools, and ensure crews understand project goals and deadlines.
- Support onboarding and development of new team members; promote safe work practices and accountability across the crew.
Planning, Coordination & Documentation
- Plan work sequences and coordinate manpower, materials, and equipment.
- Prepare and review Work Authorization Forms (WAFs), Inspection/Deficiency Reports (IDRs), and other required documentation.
- Maintain daily logs, timesheets, material usage records, and inspection reports.
- Serve as point of contact for project managers, engineers, QA personnel, and client representatives.
Technical Execution & System Installation
- Read and interpret sheet metal schematics, isometric drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Oversee installation and repair of HVAC and ventilation systems.
- Verify proper fit‑up, alignment, and support of ventilation systems in accordance with marine standards.
- Lead testing activities, including hydrostatic, pneumatic, and operational testing.
- Identify installation issues, troubleshoot field problems, and implement corrective actions efficiently.
Safety, Compliance & Quality Control
- Conduct pre‑task planning, job hazard analyses, and daily toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, USCG, ABS, NAVSEA Standard Items, shipyard policies, and all relevant safety/quality regulations.
- Perform in‑process and final inspections and verify completion before transitioning to subsequent work phases.
- Coordinate with other trades and departments to avoid conflicts and maintain efficient workflow.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 5 years of maritime or industrial sheet metal fitting, mechanical installation, or sheet metal/HVAC experience.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or lead‑level experience in a shipyard or marine environment.
- Strong ability to read piping drawings, blueprints, and installation schematics.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, maritime safety regulations, and industry quality standards.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and metal fitting tools (cutting, bending, welding support).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
- Solid leadership, time management, and task prioritization abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10‑Hour Maritime or Construction certification.
- Prior shipboard installation experience (US Navy, MSC, commercial).
- Familiarity with ABS, USCG, NAVSEA, and classification society standards.
- Experience with hydrostatic and pneumatic testing procedures.
- Ability to obtain DBIDS credential.
- Knowledge of project management practices and scheduling.
- Experience with QMS, ISO standards, or similar quality programs.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in ship repair or marine construction.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Capable of working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varied shipboard conditions.
- Able to stand, kneel, climb, and crouch for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in hot, noisy, or low‑ventilation environments.
- Exposure to fumes, paints, oils, solvents, and industrial hazards while wearing required PPE.
- Frequent movement throughout shipyards and vessels, including climbing ladders, stairs, and ramps.
- Ability to adapt to rapid changes in environment and microclimates.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Work performed aboard vessels and within shipyard facilities.
- Day or night shifts, extended hours, or weekend work as needed based on project demands.
- Occasional travel to ports or remote job sites.
