About This Position

G‑3 Chickadee—formerly part of Goodyear Chemical—is undergoing a major transformation. As a newly independent, Private Equity–backed organization, we are modernizing our infrastructure, implementing new systems (SAP, MES, cybersecurity), and building a strong operational foundation for continued growth.

We are seeking an Analytical Chemist, reporting to the R&D Chief Engineer. We are looking for a highly skilled Ph.D. chemist with deep expertise in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to lead the operation, maintenance, and strategic utilization of our 400 MHz Bruker NMR system. In this role, you will ensure high instrument uptime, develop advanced NMR methods, and help extract meaningful structural and mechanistic insights for multiple R&D programs.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary technical owner of the 400 MHz Bruker NMR, ensuring reliability, performance, and routine maintenance.
  • Develop and optimize 1D and 2D NMR experiments (¹H, ¹³C, DEPT, COSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY, DOSY, etc.).
  • Train and mentor internal users on sample prep, experiment setup, and data analysis.
  • Troubleshoot instrument performance issues and coordinate service with Bruker when needed.
  • Establish best practices for data quality, queue management, and method standardization.
  • Identify opportunities to increase NMR throughput, expand experiment capabilities, and implement new pulse sequences.
  • Collaborate with the senior analytical chemist to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a broad suite of instruments, including DSC, TGA, LC/MS, GC/MS, FTIR, Raman, GPC, or field-flow fractionation.
  • Perform structural elucidation, impurity analysis, molecular weight characterization, and physical property measurements.
  • Document results, deliver technical reports, and present findings to R&D and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide rapid-response analytical support to manufacturing sites.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, plant chemists, and quality teams to ensure continuity of operations.

What You Bring

Required

  • Masters in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or a closely related discipline with at least 7 years’ experience

Preferred

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or a closely related discipline
  • Extensive hands-on experience with NMR instruments (Bruker preferred), including method development and troubleshooting
  • Strong background in structural elucidation, organic reaction mechanism interpretation, and spectral problem solving.
  • Experience maintaining NMR hardware or coordinating vendor service
  • Experience in polymer chemistry, complex mixtures, or advanced materials analysis
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Prior exposure to industrial R&D or manufacturing environments
  • Understanding of GMP/GLP or industrial quality systems (beneficial but not required)
  • Familiarity with one or more additional analytical techniques (DSC, TGA, LC/MS, GC/MS, FTIR, Raman, GPC, or field-flow fractionation)
  • Experience with multivariate analysis, chemometrics, or automation tools
