About the position:

As a Spanish Translator, you will help ensure individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families can fully access services by providing accurate oral interpretation and written translation between English and Spanish. You will interpret in a variety of settings (such as schools, medical offices, and social service agencies) and translate documents related to services and supports. This role requires professionalism, confidentiality, cultural responsiveness, and sensitivity when working with families navigating complex systems.

What You'll Do:

Provide oral interpretation in a wide range of settings, including:

  • Social service agencies
  • Schools and educational meetings
  • Medical and dental offices
  • Therapy sessions, evaluations, and related appointments

Provide written translation of documents such as:

  • Evaluations
  • Letters
  • Reports and other service-related materials

Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion

Follow directions, guidelines, and organizational policies while working independently

Communicate with the assigned coordinator as required, including confirming requests and scheduling needs

Support equitable access to services by using respectful, person-centered, and culturally responsive communication

What You'll Bring:

  • Ability to provide clear and accurate interpretation and/or translation between English and Spanish (spoken and/or written)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and maintain reliability as an on-call employee
  • Professionalism and discretion, including the ability to keep information confidential
  • Sensitivity to the needs of parents/caregivers of children with developmental disabilities and families navigating service systems

Minimum requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Proof of identity and legal eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to be reached by cell phone to receive translation requests and communicate with coordinator as required
  • Must complete required screenings, including TB verification and Live Scan fingerprinting

If driving is required or if requesting mileage reimbursement:

  • Proof of auto insurance
  • DMV driving report provided annually

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass a post offer pre-employment background check, non- arduous physical, drug/TB screen
  • Ability to travel occasionally up to 100 miles locally to meet with clients, partners, or attend events, if applicable.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including office and community settings.
  • Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • May require occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs), standing, walking, or assisting individuals with mobility needs, if applicable.
  • Work environment may include exposure to pet allergens. The Arc maintains a pet-friendly culture, and animals (such as the office cat) may occasionally be present in the workplace. Employees may also encounter pet allergens through donated items or community environments.
