Description:

Overview:

The Staff Accountant role is responsible for accounts payable functions, including processing and reviewing invoices, issuing vendor payments, reconciling bank deposits and credit card statements, maintaining vendor records, delivers on-campus budget and requisition training, provides friendly and professional customer service, effectively collaborates and communicates across multiple departments and groups, and all other duties as assigned.

General accounting duties include preparing journal entries, reconciling bank and balance sheet accounts, monitoring subsidiary ledgers, managing fixed assets, supporting year-end close and annual audits, develop training materials and process improvements, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Candidates must have an associate’s degree in accounting or a related field (bachelor’s preferred) and 1–3 years of accounting experience, Knowledge of governmental accounting standards (e.g., GASB), fund accounting, and Banner software is preferred. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are required.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

  • Review & Process invoices for accuracy and proper approval
  • Process vendor payments
  • Assist with bank deposit reconciliation
  • Reconcile credit card statements monthly
  • Create and maintain vendors
  • Self-service finance training
  • Expense reimbursement reconciliation
  • All other duties as assigned

General Accounting

  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Monitor and reconcile subsidiary ledgers (accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets)
  • Fixed Asset Management
  • Assist with year-end close processes and annual audit
  • Maintain adherence to internal control policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including federal, state, and local requirements
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or other related field required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred; experience in higher education or public sector accounting is a plus.
  • Experience with governmental accounting standards and fund accounting preferred.

Work Environment

  • Office-based with extended periods of computer use
  • Monday – Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
