About This Position
The General Clerk II position at Military Sealift Command (MSC) in Norfolk is responsible for performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to support the smooth and efficient operation of the office. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, data entry skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
This position is an ability one job that requires at least 75% of employees on this site have a significant disability defined as "A severe physical or mental impairment —from an injury, disease, or congenital defect — which so limits the person’s functional capabilities that the individual is unable to engage in normal competitive employment over an extended period of time."
Proof of disability will be required if a job offer is extended.
Pay Rate: The pay rate is $17.94/hr plus an additional $4.57/hr in Health & Welfare pay

Responsibilities:
1. Provide general administrative support by managing correspondence, maintaining files, and organizing documents.
2. Answer phone calls, take messages, and direct calls to the appropriate staff members.
3. Prepare and maintain reports, spreadsheets, and databases to track and monitor various office activities.
4. Procure and maintain office supplies and equipment, ensuring inventory levels are maintained.
5. Perform data entry tasks accurately and efficiently.
6. Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and requests promptly and professionally
7. Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and efficient operations.
8. Adhere to established procedures, policies, and guidelines to maintain confidentiality and data security.
Requirements:
1. High school diploma is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. Experience as a general clerk or similar administrative role.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook) and other common office software such as Microsoft Teams.
4. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
7. Ability to multitask and work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
8. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.
9. Familiarity with military or government administrative processes and systems is preferred.
10. This position requires an Active Secret security clearance or the ability to pass a Government investigation to obtain a Secret clearance. Please note obtaining at minimum an Interim Secret Clearance is required before receiving a start date for this position.
