Term Lecturer, First-Year WritingThe First-Year Writing Program (FYW) at Barnard College seeks a full-time Term Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses. FYW teaches the skills of academic writing and critical inquiry to first-year Barnard students and prepares them for the rigors of Barnard’s liberal arts education in all disciplines. This is a one year position beginning on July 1, 2026, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.Job Description:
Term Lecturers teach three courses per semester in FYW, and, if needed, in First-Year Seminar, the second component of Barnard’s First-Year Experience requirements. FYW teaches the skills of academic writing and critical inquiry to first-year Barnard students, and prepares them for the rigors of Barnard’s liberal arts education in all disciplines.
Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Director.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have a terminal degree and a minimum of three years of experience teaching writing at the college level as the instructor of record. Successful applicants will have demonstrated excellence in teaching writing at the college level to students from a range of educational backgrounds including non-native speakers.

Letter of interest (including a statement of teaching philosophy, most relevant prior teaching experience, advanced pedagogical or relevant training)
Teaching dossier (including evaluations, evidence of teaching effectiveness, sample syllabi of courses taught and/or a syllabus for an academic writing course that you have developed
Finalists will be asked to identify three references, including one with direct knowledge of their teaching capabilities.

Salary: $89,000
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
