This senior leadership role is responsible for scaling and guiding multiple engineering teams behind enterprise SaaS products for healthcare clients. The Director of Engineering drives technical strategy, operational excellence, and cross-team collaboration while building a high-performance, trust-driven culture. You will influence architecture, delivery practices, and cloud infrastructure management while partnering with Product, Data, and DevOps leadership to ensure predictable, high-quality outcomes. This role demands strong experience leading distributed, remote-first teams and navigating growth inflection points, including post-acquisition integrations. Success in this position directly impacts product quality, engineering efficiency, and long-term organizational growth. The ideal candidate excels at balancing technical depth with people leadership, fostering accountability, and empowering managers to deliver results.
- Lead and scale multiple engineering teams building enterprise SaaS solutions, owning people management, processes, and outcomes.
- Develop and sustain a high-performing engineering culture, mentoring managers, establishing career frameworks, and promoting accountability at all levels.
- Partner with Product leadership to maintain technical health, manage delivery risks, and ensure products ship with quality and predictability.
- Drive cross-team collaboration to improve code reuse, shared ownership, and alignment across engineering and platform teams.
- Mature engineering practices, including planning, architectural decision records (ADRs), documentation, quality metrics, and developer experience.
- Manage cloud infrastructure costs across teams and products, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
- Lead or support integration of acquired engineering teams, setting standards, building trust, and accelerating cohesion.
- Participate in technical and architectural reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
Requirements:
- 12+ years building enterprise SaaS products, with at least 5 years leading engineering organizations through growth stages.
- Proven experience managing distributed, remote-first engineering teams of 20+ through engineering managers.
- Strong track record of scaling engineering organizations: hiring, developing leaders, creating career frameworks, and managing performance with clarity and empathy.
- Experience leading post-acquisition integrations and successfully merging teams into cohesive cultures.
- Deep operational expertise: understand engineering metrics, diagnose delivery issues, and implement solutions without micromanaging.
- Strong collaboration skills with Product, Data, and DevOps peers, and the ability to navigate tensions constructively.
- Experience managing cloud infrastructure at scale, preferably in AWS-first environments.
- High emotional intelligence, ability to lead through ambiguity, drive change, and set clear priorities.
- Nice to have: experience with data-intensive/event-driven architectures (Kinesis, Step Functions, Serverless), healthcare or regulated SaaS environments, and AWS cost optimization tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
