APPLICATION SPECIALIST
Department: BUSINESS SYSTEMS
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Business System Manager
The Application Specialist is responsible for assisting in designing, delivering, maintaining, and improving in-house software applications and technology. The Application Specialist will also support end users in the organization on how to use various software programs efficiently and effectively in fulfilling business objectives. This includes troubleshooting applications and software for all internal customers.
Performs essential duties and responsibilities in the following areas which may include, but are not limited to those listed, and are subject to change:
- Maintain, support, and enhance assigned business applications to ensure reliable performance across the organization.
- Learn and support all credit union systems and platforms, including but not limited to origination systems, online banking, document imaging, and core processing systems.
- Act as the primary point of contact with vendors for system issues by opening and managing vendor support tickets, coordinating troubleshooting efforts, testing proposed fixes, and supporting implementation of approved solutions.
- Manage incoming support tickets, communicate status updates, and perform post-resolution follow-ups to confirm issues are resolved.
- Assist with application implementations, system updates, enhancements, and testing to ensure business requirements are met.
- Work closely with business users, vendors, and IT team members to support application improvements and ongoing system needs.
- Identify basic process gaps or system inefficiencies and recommend opportunities for improvement under guidance from senior team members.
- Create and maintain system documentation, configuration details, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide end-user support and basic training related to application usage and system updates.
- Ensure system changes, enhancements, and known issues are clearly communicated to stakeholders.
- Follow security procedures, access controls, and data protection standards.
- Stay current with internal communications, required meetings, and assigned projects.
- Complete all required compliance and annual training requirements.
- Comply with all federal, state, and organizational policies, procedures, and processes, including (but not limited to) the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned while continuing to build technical and business system knowledge.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
- Carolina Telco FCU Application Services processing functions are efficiently, effectively, and accurately performed per established policies, standards, and program requirements.
- Complete technology testing and updates within the applicable SLA.
- Professional business relations exist with customers, institutions, and businesses. Assistance is provided as needed. Good working relations exist with credit union personnel.
- Management is appropriately informed of area activities.
- Exhibits ongoing commitment to the enactment of organizational core values.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major preferred. Previous work experience in a related field and Technical Associate Degree (2-year) may be substituted for Bachelor degree.
- Knowledge of and experience with cloud-based applications, software, and Microsoft 365.
- Proven experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue-resolution techniques.
- Experience working in JIRA or Confluence
- Attention to detail and effective writing and verbal skills.
- Self-directed with the ability to meet project deadlines.
- Work effectively with key stakeholders to complete tasks
- Knowledge of financial institution products, services, policies, and procedures
