About Humane Society of North Texas
Founded in 1905, the Humane Society of North Texas is the oldest animal welfare organization in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. HSNT serves animals in need by providing services such as pet adoptions, spay/neuter surgeries and low-cost vaccinations, returning lost pets to their owners, cruelty investigations and humane euthanasia. We operate two pet adoption centers in Tarrant County as well as PetSmart and PetCo Cat Adoption Centers and an equine ranch located in Johnson County.
Essential Functions of the Position
● Represent the Humane Society of North Texas with professional courtesy in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
● Provide excellent customer service and focus by greeting customers in a timely and welcoming manner.
● Educate the public on the Humane Society of North Texas rehoming procedures and appointment expectations.
● Counsel clients about resources available to retain pets and, if desired, assist in rehoming.
● Maintain prevention surrender records and schedule appointments.
● Make routine decisions regarding the proper care and handling of animals.
● Assist those in need with carriers, cages, donations, and stairs, etc.
● Aid all visitors by greeting, welcoming, and directing them appropriately.
● Work with rescues within and outside of Texas regarding relocation of pets currently in our care.
● Protect confidential information of customers and donors.
● Perform accurate, routine transactions including credit card, cash, and check handling ensuring a balanced Animal Resource cash drawer.
● Clean assigned areas on a daily basis.
● Maintains a clean and safe reception working area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
● Oversee clients in the parking lot.
● Keep a current inventory of necessary program supplies and report shortages to the Animal Resource Manager.
● Maintain assigned equipment and supplies in a safe condition and report any problems or needed repairs to the Animal Advocate.
● Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
● Handle fractious animals
● Additional tasks as assigned by Animal Resource Manager
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position
● Ability to learn and apply Humane Society of North Texas policies and protocols, such as, but not limited to, intake, owner requested euthanasia, cleaning, adoption, and medical protocols.
● Ability to operate or learn quickly to operate G-suites and Petpoint.
● Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.
● Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.
● Ability to deal with fractious animals and customers.
● Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Humane Society of North Texas, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player.
● Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
● Knowledge of and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.
● Must be detail-oriented and have strong time management and organization skills.
● Strong communication skills to facilitate in person, phone or email conversations
● Must be customer focused, demonstrating listening skills and professionalism in all interactions
● Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
● Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
● Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
Education, Experience, Certificates and Licensing Requirements:
● High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
● Animal handling experience, preferable
Physical Demands:
● This position is regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch.
● The position holder must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds without assistance, up to 80 pounds with assistance.
● Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
● Must be qualified and licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Texas.
● Must be able to work standing for 6 or more hours and be able to bend/kneel repeatedly and have a reasonable degree of agility to move through tightly cramped areas in various situations.
● Ability to alternate between sitting and standing as needed
● Ascending or descending ramps and/or stairs using feet and legs. Hands and arms may be used for balance (e.g., to hold a railing)
● Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to vendors, customers or employees to convey detailed spoken instructions accurately, loudly, and quickly
● Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds
Working Conditions:
● The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week.
● By nature of the industry, this position may be consistently exposed to airborne particles and/or animal allergens and odors. There also may be occasional exposure to dead, sick, unruly, and/or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.
● Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
