Together, we will become the world's leading cancer reference laboratory.Position Summary:As the Lead Technologist you will be responsible for complex laboratory procedures and handling all types of specimens submitted to the department for processing tasks assigned. You will also be assisting the department supervisor, participating in training all laboratory personnel, and coordinating and reviewing the work of assigned staff in addition to performing the full range of clinical testing proceduresResponsibilities:
- Performs clinical laboratory tests proficiently in the department and exercises independent judgment in the specialty assigned
- Assists in supervising technical personnel by monitoring workflow to meet testing schedules; distributing and reviewing work assignments; scheduling; training employees on company and laboratory policies, procedures, techniques, and on equipment; resolving work-related problems of staff; and providing input for performance appraisals and disciplinary actions
- Leads and implements project improvements within the department
- Assists the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager with the documentation and daily completion of performance verification criteria of tests, reagents and equipment as requested
- Reviews QA and QC records in accordance with departmental procedures and reports all problems to the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager
- Works closely with Supervisor in the monitoring and correction of trends and problems in equipment operation, reagent usage and test procedures performance
- Performs advanced troubleshooting skills and works closely with the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager to maintain a proper working environment and resolving trends and problems associated with equipment operation, reagent usage and test procedure performance
- Generates incident reports when appropriate and enters corrective action taken to achieve resolution on appropriate QC sheets
- Reviews, releases test results and follows department’s procedure in reporting STATS or Critical results to the interpreting physician per department SOP
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology from an accredited college or university preferred. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences with the addition of at least 1 year of laboratory experience/training/training course
- Six or more years of equivalent experience (high complexity molecular testing) preferred
- ASCP MB License required
- Advanced understanding of general laboratory techniques with emphasis on department specific techniques
- Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
- Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual
- Good visual acuity, including color perception required for certain departments
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
