REMCAN is seeking qualified Thermite Welding Foremen for our 2026 season for projects throughout Canada. We are looking for full-time, applicants eager to travel on a rotational schedule.
Job Summary:
Reporting to either the Supervisor, Thermite Operations, the General Manager, Operations or General Manager, Track Maintenance, the Foreman, Thermite Operations is responsible for overseeing various thermite welding projects across their assigned territory.
The Foreman, Thermite Operations is responsible to ensure that all employees adhere to REMCAN’s Occupational and Health related procedures, processes, and policies creating a ZERO incident free environment. As the Foreman, you will also work closely with the Track Maintenance team to ensure all customer goals and objective are met.
The Foreman, Thermite Operations is also responsible for training and qualifying new team members on the intricacies of Thermite Welding as well as ensuring all team members remain concurrent with industry and clients standards.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Respond to and act on safety, health, and environmental related incidents.
- Document any safety-related failures while working with members of the OH&S team on overall risk mitigation and management.
- Work with safety team to ensure safety failures and/or policy failures are fully investigated with recommendations on actionable items and applicable discipline (when and where appropriate).
- Ensure timely implementation of new safety policies and/or procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Ensure employees are fully versed and adhere to REMCAN safety practices, policies, and procedures including specific requirements associated with Thermite Welding.
- Document daily completion of tasks in order to meet applicable regulatory compliance requirements.
- Coach and mentor new employees and newly appointed Lead Hands including working with Occupational Health and Safety and Human Resources to identify key learning paths.
- Create and manage a strong team of employees who focus on safety and produce results.
- Ensures that both corporate and site-specific safety plans are in place and adhered, holding people accountable for all accidents, incidents, and avoidable personal injuries.
- Maintain teamwork, and order amongst staff, contractors, and internal clients by acting with a sense of urgency to respond to issues as they may arise.
- Oversee customer requests and emergent customer requirement - develop working relationships with client representatives, focusing on meeting the day-to-day expectations and building business.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years previous railway experience is required.
- Valid Class 5 or Class G driver’s license, and reliable transportation.
- Produce a 3-year driver’s abstract.
- Pass eRailSafe Canada workforce compliance system.
- Complete pre-employment medical which includes screening for alcohol and drugs (including marijuana and THC).
- First Aid and previous safety training are considered assets (WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry).
- Demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised, as well as in teams.
- Work all types of shifts as required, including weekends and night shifts.
- Work in various weather conditions all year round.
- Travel to remote work locations as required.
