Responsibilities

  • Ensure the ongoing operation of the data center.
  • Ensure that facilities problems are identified and repaired quickly.
  • Mentor and develop the skills of an internal team to scale in support of facilities equipment.
  • Provide detailed technical input in the planning, design and development of all electrical and mechanical facilities equipment.
  • Work outside of the box with team members to improve efficiency and implement new data center strategies.
  • Ensures quality and timely responses to internal service requests & problems as delivered from various teams using our Enterprise service request system.
  • Ensures the maintenance and repair of numerous mechanical, electrical, security and fire protection systems found in our sophisticated data center environment. These facility systems support the mission critical Information Technology systems (servers, and storage) that are used to operate the business.
  • Installation of all Cat 6 copper, fiber, server and network hardware in compliance with InComm standards of process and installation
  • Manage structured cable plant.
  • Assist server & network teams with the proper installation of computer and networking systems within the data center. The installations of these systems are performed during normal business hours as well as nights and weekends. This work must be completed with the highest degree of accuracy, professionalism and attention to detail to meet overall site reliability requirements.
  • Coordinate, inspect and verify the work of external contractors and technicians. All work must be completed in a safe, effective and reliable manner.
  • Perform necessary testing and commissioning on all new components, equipment and facilities systems that are installed in the data center environment. Investigate and troubleshoot problems with facilities equipment to determine root cause of breakdown/failure.
  • Use of instruments such as volt/ohm meter, laptop computer, I/R camera, amp meter and power analyzer on a consistent basis to assist with maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. Operate a variety of power equipment and power tools to perform required duties.
  • Perform any and all work, apparent or assigned, to prevent accidents, business interruption and/or customer dissatisfaction.
  • Inspect, monitor, document and report the condition of the numerous systems that make up the data center facility. This is done to ensure the proper operation of the entire data center system.
  • Proficiency in the use of the numerous building/system automation and monitoring systems is critical.
  • Provide "on-call" coverage during non-working hours to answer questions and/or respond to emergency situations. This is accomplished via a company provided cell phone, laptop computer, and on-site presence.
  • Read, comprehend and work from complex technical information (i.e. blueprints, sketches, building plans and schematics) pertaining to electrical and mechanical systems that serve the data centers. Use safety equipment as required and comply with all safety programs and training.
  • Oversight and management of outside vendors working in the facilities.


Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of experience as a Facilities Manager or Chief Engineer in an Enterprise data center (financial, industrial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing or military).
  • BA/BS degree Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in motivating, leading and creating an effective team environment.
  • Experience in the management of vendors/contractors performing installation, maintenance or upgrade work in a data center or related environment.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Experience in a service provider environment a plus.
  • Strong Electrical knowledge and Licensed technical expertise as it pertains to Data Center Systems – UPS, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, feeders, transformers, switchgear, NEMA circuits, breakers, emergency generators, chillers, air handling units, and CRAC/CRAH units) including strong familiarity with US and International safety regulations and controls.
  • Plant, Liebert Units, rooftop units, ductwork, piping.
  • A great attitude with internal customers and external parties.
  • Comprehension of common predictive and preventative maintenance techniques
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds
  • Proven discretionary judgment with ability to resolve both routine and non-routine issues.
  • Attention to detail with an ability to follow through on project objectives.
  • Proven communication skills and exceptional service attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a multi-tasking environment
