Sr Director, Software Engineering

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Sr Director, Software Engineering in United States.

This senior leadership role sits at the core of a globally distributed engineering organization focused on building and scaling foundational platform capabilities that power large-scale developer products. The position is responsible for driving technical strategy, reliability, and operational excellence across critical systems that support millions of users worldwide. It blends deep technical leadership with people management, requiring the ability to guide engineering managers and senior engineers in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. The role focuses on strengthening service reliability, observability, and production readiness while ensuring teams deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality software. Operating at executive scale, this leader will shape engineering direction, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and enable long-term platform evolution. It is an opportunity to directly impact developer experience and system stability at global scale within a remote-first organization.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and scale globally distributed engineering teams, including managers and engineers, while driving technical vision, execution, and organizational alignment.
  • Define and execute engineering strategy for platform reliability, observability, production operations, and foundational developer experience systems.
  • Drive architectural excellence across services, ensuring scalable, secure, and resilient systems that support high-availability environments.
  • Oversee delivery of critical platform capabilities such as monitoring, observability, feature flagging, experimentation frameworks, and production safety systems.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to align technical execution with business priorities and long-term goals.
  • Ensure teams deliver iterative improvements, balancing speed of delivery with system stability and future scalability.
  • Remove execution blockers, improve operational clarity, and drive prioritization across multiple engineering initiatives.
  • Build and foster a high-performing engineering culture focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Lead hiring, talent development, and organizational scaling efforts across distributed teams.

Requirements:

  • 11+ years of experience in software engineering or related technical disciplines, with strong hands-on development experience in modern programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, Go, JavaScript, or similar.
  • 5+ years of people management experience, including managing managers and senior technical teams in large-scale environments.
  • Proven experience defining and executing engineering strategy and roadmaps in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong track record of leading complex, large-scale technical initiatives in high-growth or fast-moving organizations.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, platform reliability, scalability, and production operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical depth with leadership, communication, and organizational influence.
  • Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams in complex or ambiguous environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to drive clarity, alignment, and execution across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred: experience with observability platforms, infrastructure reliability, or high-scale distributed systems performance (autoscaling, load balancing, traffic management).

Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary ranging from approximately $160,200 to $425,000 annually.
  • Eligibility for performance-based annual bonus and stock-based compensation depending on role and impact.
  • Remote-first work model with flexibility across the United States.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage including medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Retirement savings plan with employer contributions and additional matching options.
  • Generous paid time off, holidays, and sick leave policies.
  • Learning and development support to encourage continuous professional growth.
  • Inclusive, diverse, and globally distributed engineering culture.
  • Additional rewards and incentives tied to individual and team performance.
