The IT Intern supports the day-to-day operations of Swift Engineering’s information technology systems. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in IT support, system maintenance, and troubleshooting. The intern will assist with hardware and software setup, user support, and basic network and system administration while learning best practices in a professional engineering environment.
Reports to: IT Specialist
Rate: $20 to $25 per hour
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide basic technical support to employees, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues
- Assist with installing, configuring, and updating computer systems, software, and peripherals
- Support server room organization and optimization, including cable management, labeling, and documentation
- Assist with network cabling, rewiring, and physical infrastructure improvements to ensure clean, efficient connectivity
- Support documentation of IT processes, procedures, and system configurations
- Collaborate with other departments to understand their technical needs and provide IT support solutions that improve workflows and productivity
- Help maintain inventory of IT equipment and track assets
- Collaborate with internal teams and external IT vendors when needed
- Support basic IT security practices and compliance requirements
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking concepts
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Working Conditions:
Primarily in an office environment, and shop environment.
