About This Position

Compensation and Benefits Snapshot Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Install, maintain, and repair underground utility pipes including water, sewage, and storm drain systems.
  • Accurately read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction plans.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and assemble new pipe.
  • Connect pipes using welded, threaded, or mechanical joints.
  • Grouting, dry packing, and diapering of joints, including pouring of concrete over joints.
  • Inspect and test installed systems using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, or other methods to ensure system integrity and safety.
  • Identify and locate existing utility lines to prevent damage during installation or repair activities.
  • Excavate trenches and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other construction professionals to plan and execute project requirements.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior/apprentice pipefitters as required.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and adhere to project schedules.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Completion of a state approved apprenticeship program is preferred.

Minimum Skills and Work Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years as an underground utility pipefitter.
  • Skills:
  • Knowledge of construction practices and safety standards.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, including safety signage.
  • Proficient with use hand tools, small power equipment, related to trade (pipe threaded/HDPE fusion etc,).
  • Experience with ductile iron, C900, HDPE Fusion Certified a plus.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and understand specifications.
  • Have working knowledge of heavy civil projects.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Certifications: OSHA 10 or 30-hour training preferred; First Aid/CPR a plus.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • To successfully carry out the essential duties of this position, an employee must meet the physical requirements outlined here. The employee is frequently required to talk and listen while carrying out the responsibilities of this position. The worker frequently must stand, walk, climb ladders and perform strenuous manual labor. Frequently the employee needs to reach with their hands and arms. May need to kneel or bend for long periods of time. The employee is frequently required to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Close vision and the ability to refocus are two important vision skills for this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work environment includes busy construction sites where the employee will be exposed to weather conditions, moving vehicles and large construction equipment, must be safety focused.

Must have your own hand tools as required for trade and reliable transportation to and from jobsite.

  • Compensation and Benefits Snapshot:
  • Pay Range: $37.90 - $39.85 per hour or Prevailing wage rates if applicable, plus benefits. Full-time non-exempt position.
