About This Position

Product Owner III

Who is Beast Code?

Beast Code was founded in 2014 by a small group of friends with a revolutionary vision to transcend the traditional defense solution paradigm and build better technology that supports the mission. Headquartered in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, today we have evolved into a matrix organization of over 200 Beasts scattered across the United States. We are dedicated to delivering modern and intuitive software solutions that directly enhances the warfighter every day. What sets Beast Code apart is how we partner with our customers. We don’t just build for them, we build with them, ensuring every solution meets real world needs. Guided by core values of trust, purpose, and relentless innovation, we’re proudly redefining what it means to serve those who serve.

Product Owner Description
Beast Code runs a tight ship, but our projects are growing more numerous, and we require additional hands-on deck. We’re looking for a Product Owner to join us as a captain — someone who’ll manage and guide a project to stay on course and arrive at the destination intact and on time.

The primary role of a Product Owner (PO) is to maximize the value of the product through organizing and managing the work of the development team. This includes keeping the Product Backlog in order, so it’s helpful to have some familiarization with GitLab.

A Product Owner is a multi-talented manager capable of balancing business management and people management. This crew member is no micro-managing turncoat. They are, in fact, a macro-manager with an eye on the big picture so the dev team can focus on the details and do the heavy lifting.

If this all fits your swashbuckling skills, then sign up and climb aboard. We’ll even let you announce, “I’m the Captain now!” But only once — and it must be in character. (Google: Captain Phillips)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and prioritize product features and requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  • Enjoy pouring over analytics and feedback to improve products and increase business value
  • Have experience managing multiple teams collaborating on multiple projects
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and QA, to deliver product enhancements and new functionalities.
  • Act as a liaison between the technical team and stakeholders, translating technical details into business language and vice versa.
  • Manage the product backlog, ensuring that all items are clearly described, prioritized, and understood by the development team.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, identifying risks early and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative working environment, especially when dealing with difficult or challenging team.

This job might be for you if you are familiar with and/or enjoy:

  • Product Backlog Management
  • Developing plans & project roadmaps
  • Prioritizing tasks to optimize team members and achieve maximum efficiency
  • Knowledge management suites
  • Keep current with software development industry standards/trends

You score Bonus Points if you:

  • Are well experienced with GitLab or similar platforms
  • Can manage multiple technical initiatives that feed into a single product vision

The POs are the contact point between the business, the development team, and the
client. Thus, we need you to carry these specific skills in your toolbelt:

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner, Project Manager, or similar role in a technical environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong technical background, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to not only make data-informed decisions but also intuitively balance customer benefit and engineering complexity
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with challenging personalities and to manage conflicts constructively.
  • Agile/Scrum certification or experience is highly desirable.
  • Vision: No, we’re not talking about your eyesight, but your mind. On the business side, a good PO has the capacity to understand the company’s vision. On the team side, a PO has the vision to help the development team break it into smaller pieces and organize it to attain the goal.
  • Mediator: A calm demeanor and thick skin are a must, as you’ll be simultaneously managing the goal and balancing expectations between the team, business, and client. The PO also is a stand-in for the client, so listening to feedback and using it to improve the product is a key function.
