About This Position

As part of the Welty Energy Team, the Substation Engineering Supervisor will foster client relationships, staff engagement, and process improvement while striving to become the best customer centric professional services consulting firm for electric utilities in our target geographic region.

As a Welty Energy Supervisor, Substation Engineering, you are expected to:

  • supervise a team of Engineers and Designers supporting substation design projects for our clients.
  • foster and maintain a relationship with our clients and be an advocate for Welty Energy.
  • foster a safety-focused culture.
  • foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, open communication, and mutual respect.
  • consult on your team’s projects where your expertise and guidance are needed.
  • collaborate with other supervisors and managers within and outside of your group to share resources and provide support as needed to deliver excellence to Welty Energy’s client(s).
  • collaborate with others as needed to provide consultation on specific projects, proposals, etc.
  • be an SME for all client software, tools and processes that are utilized by your team.
  • be involved with providing training to incoming and existing staff as well as providing day-to-day guidance to your team.
  • participate in meetings that are led by your direct reports.
  • support the Welty Energy Management Team and collaborate and consult for the benefit of the organization.
  • complete project work as a working supervisor for specific projects as needed and as determined by your Manager, Director, and/or the Executive Vice President.
  • complete specific tasks as needed and as determined by your Manager, Director, or the Executive Vice President.

In addition to the roles above you are expected to:

  • Continuously develop proficiency and understanding in your role.

  • assist your Manager in assigning work appropriately to your team.
  • drive utilization and performance of your team.
  • drive profitability of your team’s projects.
  • assist your Manager with establishing goals that align with Welty Energy’s rocks.
  • be accountable for goals as established by you and your Manager.
  • assist with recruiting and retaining high quality talent.
  • assist your manager with interviewing and onboarding new staff.
  • assist your manager with leadership of team meetings.
  • support career development of your team.
  • participate with your Manager in career conversations for your team.
  • participate in discussions with your manager regarding the performance of your staff, but have no direct responsibility for salary administration, salary increase recommendations, or bonus recommendations.
  • support training for staff.
  • consult on projects with your team.
  • attend site visits with your team.
  • perform safety observations during field visits at project locations.

You will also be expected to:

  • act as role model for Welty Core Values, OPTIC (Openness, Passion, Teamwork, Integrity, Customer Centricity) and Welty Energy strategic objectives.
  • share knowledge with and train additional team members.
  • establish trust and healthy rapport with all Welty Energy staff at all levels of the organization.

  • collaborate with the Welty Energy Management Team to foster a productive and encouraging environment.
  • with the support of your manager, establish SMART goals for your team and track progress towards those goals.
  • meet timesheet and expenses expectations including appropriate application to corresponding projects and submittal and approval deadlines (weekly) for you and your team.

You should bring to the table:

  • bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or similar.
  • minimum of five years of experience in substation engineering.
  • PE preferred.
  • strong understanding of the technical aspects of substation projects, including knowledge of engineering principles and construction methodologies.
  • strong written and verbal communication skills, consisting of clearly conveying project objectives, expectations, and feedback to their team, as well as effectively communicating with clients, stakeholders, and other departments.
  • effective leadership and organizational skills, Including the ability to inspire and motivate their team, set clear goals, and manage conflicts while supporting a positive team culture.
  • knowledge of or ability to learn client’s systems, tools, and processes.
