This position is a member of an in-house, repair and maintenance team responsible for a wide variety of campus electronics, computers, network, peripheral equipment and campus physical security.
The incumbent must possess a solid background in electronics as well as advanced knowledge of modern technology applications including (but not limited to) desktop computers, networking, telecommunication systems, television/video systems, multi-media hardware, computer peripherals and electronic door security.
The incumbent is expected to work independently with minimum supervision as well as work productively as part of the Technical Services team and with other technology specialists within the Information Technology unit. While typically working standard hours, the incumbent will be required to – as needed - work evenings and weekends in response to special projects or campus-wide technology emergencies.
Job Summary
Provides technical support for moderately complex data and voice infrastructure and equipment. Performs complex telecommunications tasks and maintains data and voice equipment. Supplies end user support for basic requests. Monitors network and system alerts and alarms, makes planning recommendations, and coordinates with customers and vendors.
Essential Functions
1) Use of scientific test equipment, hand and power tools.
2) Removal and replacement of electronic components.
3) Transport electronics, computers and peripherals across campus.
4) Access all locations on campus including offices, basements, manholes, attics, crawlspaces, etc.
5) Work in environments of varying height including, ladders, scissor-lifts and roof tops.
Physical Effort
Ability to carry a 25 lb. tool kit across campus. Ability to drive a campus cart to locations on campus. Set up and negotiate 6 ft. step ladder. Move, lift and transport equipment weighing 50 lbs.
