About This Position
The Cardiac Device Management Technician (CDMT) is responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of cardiac rhythms and rhythm EMG analysis in person and from remote transmission; evaluation of online information, retrieval and triage of that information, preparing it for entry to electronic health record, and physician evaluation.
Reviews remote transmissions, downloads data from each site, enters data into data management program, reviews abnormal results with Manager, or Physician.
Evaluates post operative conditions including function of the device; scheduling, facilitating and performing remote and in office follow up evaluations.
Educates patients regarding device and post-op related issues, home monitoring and when to call the clinic.
Tracks implanted devices, leads, and serial numbers. Is aware of safety and performance alerts and recalls and identifying which patients are relevant to FDA mandated changes.
Notifies such patients as directed by the physician. Prepares reports for Cardiologist’s for surgical procedures, radiation therapy, and MRI report for MRI conditional devices.
Phone triage of device related issues; any urgent issues with heart rhythm, heart failure symptoms or post op incision are addressed immediately with Cardiologist, Heart Failure RN and documented in EMR.
Determines when an adequate test has been obtained and consults supervisor or cardiologist as needed. Additional monitoring duties may include Holter evaluation of recorded events and the ability process for physician interpretation.
May take medical history, record vital signs, schedule patients and equipment maintenance. More about this role:
Evaluates patients to ensure proper follow-up of Pacemakers, ICDs and CRT devices and external defibrillators (LifeVest). Promotes safety of patients; assesses need for programming changes or medical intervention.
Ensures proper function of leads, device as necessary to promote optimal device function based on patient needs.
Familiar with symptom/rhythm correlation with cardiac device findings. Identifies and troubleshoots device function both in person and remotely.
Knowledge of programmer’s equipment, standard tests and procedures, and typical readings including arrhythmias and abnormalities.
Knowledge of typical patient reactions and signs of distress including the ability to recognize report and treat potentially lethal arrhythmias.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiac medications.
Able to independently perform tests MUST have experience or training in cardiac device management
High school diploma or equivalent. Must have Cardiac Device management training.
1 year previous experience
BLS certification (NON-RN staff)/ACLS certification (RNs only) required CDM on-the-job training or completion of an approved CDMT program is required
Experience with Medtronic, St Jude, Boston Scientific and Biotronic programmers
