About the Role:

As a Camp Glade Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for campers of various ages. Your primary objective is to facilitate a memorable camp experience by leading activities, fostering teamwork, and encouraging personal growth among campers. You will be responsible for supervising campers, ensuring their safety, and addressing their individual needs throughout the camp session. This role requires strong interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with campers, parents, and fellow staff members. Ultimately, your efforts will contribute to the overall success of the camp by promoting a positive, inclusive, and fun atmosphere.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting.
  • Ability to pass a background check and comply with all health and safety regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to camp start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in outdoor education, recreational leadership or child-care
  • Additional certifications in lifeguarding, wilderness first aid, or child development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead group activities and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Bilingual skills or experience working with diverse populations.
  • Previous training in behavior management or counseling.

Responsibilities:

    • Implement a weekly schedule for your camp group.
    • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, archery, canoeing, golf, fishing, and laser tag. This includes time spent on the bus.
    • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
    • Ensure Camp Glade is kept clean, organized, and free of litter inside and outside.
    • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Camp Supervisor.
    • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
    • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
    • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.

    • Attend scheduled training seminars and department meetings.
    • Regular and reliable attendance.
    • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
    • Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action which may be taken.
    • Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company associates and purveyors to promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate, which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
    • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established company policies to achieve the overall objectives of the position.
    • Maintains a professional standard at Glade Springs to include but not limited to appearance, verbal discussions, written correspondence and interactions with members, associates, and guests. Does not discuss confidential items with fellow associates or work-related issues with members or guests.
    • Other tasks as assigned by the Camp Glade Supervisor.

First aid and safety knowledge are critical for responding promptly to any health or safety incidents, maintaining a secure environment.
