At Community Journals, the creative force behind Greenville Journal, Upstate Business Journal, TOWN, and atHome magazines, we’re on a mission to tell inspiring stories and strengthen our connection with the vibrant Greenville community. As a locally owned company, we’re passionate about informing, connecting, and inspiring the people of Greenville, SC.

Interns at Community Journals work closely with our team to produce content, graphics, photography and more for all our publications, accompanying websites, newsletters and social media platforms. Applicants must have a general writing aptitude, an interest in what is going on in Greenville and the Upstate; a desire to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment; and an openness to direction and feedback.

Our internship program runs during the fall, spring and summer months.

Editorial Intern

• Assist staff with research and asset gathering
• Participate in weekly planning meetings as schedule permits
• With assistance/direction, pitch, report and write stories
• Work with team to maximize story presentation
• Cover events live on social media - photo and video - Instagram, Facebook, etc.
• Assist with day-to-day web publishing
• Schedules content for all social platforms using industry standards
• Monitors social media for news tips and events to share with team
• Brings ideas to the table to increase engagement

Graphic Design Intern:

• Collaborate with sales and production departments
• Design and/or edit Community Journals’ collateral, including media kits and marketing information sheets
• Design promotional display ads to run, from concept to final design, in print and online
• Attend weekly team meetings to understand current sales projects and priorities
• Design spec advertisements for clients as time allows
• With direction, layout pages in print publications
• Attend photo shoots, edit photos, shoot basic content

Requirements:

A personal laptop computer

Availability: minimum 20 hours/week (summer); 10 hours/week (fall and spring)

Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic knowledge of Photoshop and Adobe Suite preferred.

A willingness to learn programs like WordPress and Slack.
