Reports to: Public Works Foreman/Crew Leaders Salary: $27.06/hour

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, performs varied manual labor involving maintenance, construction, and repair to Township roads, buildings, landscaped areas, and other Township property; uses a variety of hand tools and operates trucks, backhoes, mower, or other Township owned equipment in the accomplishment of work assignments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participates in the repair and resurfacing of Township streets. Works with Construction materials such as stone aggregates, hot asphalt, cold patch asphalt, and other materials as required; uses hand tools such as shovels and tampers and and/or operates equipment such as a front-end loader, grader, roller and/or other equipment as assigned by the Foreman or Crew Leader.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

- High School Diploma or the equivalent required.
- Valid PA Class B Commercial Driver’s License with an air brake endorsement required.
- Requires working knowledge for the safe operation of the vehicles and equipment utilized in public work and parks and recreation maintenance, repair, and construction programs.
- Excellent physical condition sufficient to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Must be able to lift and carry 100lbs.
- Requires ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- Ability to work independently and to use common sense and good judgement in daily maintenance activities as well as in emergency situations.
- Ability to perform related concrete and masonry tasks.
- Requires elementary knowledge of the methods, procedures, tools, and materials used in Public Works maintenance and repair.
- Requires elementary knowledge of the hazards connected with Public Works activities and correlative safety measures and precautions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with Township personnel and the public.
- Ability to employ appropriate precautionary measures and utilize safe work methods.
- Ability to skillfully use related hand tools.
- Ability to operate or learn the operation of standard vehicles and equipment used in Public Works maintenance, repair, and construction programs.
- Ability to perform manual labor in the maintenance of streets and park areas.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit for up to 8 hours a day and move about the building for up to 8 hours per workday.
- Constant hand, fingers and arm use, and excellent eye-hand coordination.
- Ability to hear clearly and speak intelligibly.
- To continuously function in activities involving walking, bending, and reaching.
- To occasionally function in activities involving standing for extended periods of time, crawling, climbing, and involving unprotected heights.
- To frequently function in activities involving squatting, being around machinery, exposed to changes in temperature and humidity, driving a vehicle and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
- Ability to operate the following equipment (but not all inclusive) such as Backhoe, Loader, Dump Trucks, Bucket Truck, Roadside Mower, Lawn Mower, Power Tools, Chainsaw, etc.
- Ability to perform manual labor and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to work hours outside normal work hours/schedule.
