This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
As part of a hardworking team of EHS Professionals, you will provide subject matter expertise to engineering and production resources related to Process Safety Management (PSM) and other EHS programs. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of safety and health compliance with local, state, and federal regulations at Blue Origin locations including, but not limited to: OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 (PSM), NFPA, and ANSI requirements. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the Process Safety Management (PSM) program and ensure compliance with all elements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119
- Manage day-to-day and long-term activities and priorities of the process safety program across Blue Origin facilities
- Lead Management of Change (MOC) reviews and ensure all process changes are assessed and documented per PSM requirements
- Facilitate and oversee Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for new or modified processes and equipment
- Oversee the Mechanical Integrity (MI) program for PSM-covered equipment, including inspection and testing schedules
- Facilitate and lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) including HAZOP, What-If, LOPA, and Fault Tree Analysis
- Evaluate equipment overpressure and overtemperature scenarios and reaction hazards
- Provide subject matter expertise in design and test reviews with a focus on PSM
- Perform periodic audits of safety programs and travel to support process safety activities across multiple sites
- Develop and maintain Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) for PSM-covered processes and support responses to incidents including spills, injuries, hazardous operations, launches, hurricanes, and other emergencies
- Prepare and submit reports to federal and state regulatory agencies as required
- Support development of job hazard analyses and risk assessments including HAZOP, JHA, work instructions, and trainings
- Provide EHS-related input for building design and operations
- Develop and track PSM metrics for the organization and present findings to leadership
- Apply intimate knowledge of safe work practices for complex fluid and gas system design, testing, processing, and storage
- Develop and roll out new tools focused on world-class PSM performance
- Direct, coordinate, and participate in all process safety audits and inspections by keeping accurate and detailed records of all requirements
- Identify and initiate capital projects and other improvements as needed to ensure ongoing compliance with PSM standards
- Mentor and train employees and team members on Blue Origin EHS programs, PSM requirements, good practices, new methods, and hazard study outputs
- Evaluate operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measures
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field
- 6+ years of total work experience in a high-hazard industry with a focus on PSM
- Extensive knowledge of Process Safety Management regulations, including OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119, and program management
- Advanced understanding of industry codes, standards, and practices such as ASME, NFPA, ANSI, IBC/IFC, RAGAGEP, and API standards
- Knowledge of quality tools such as lean manufacturing principles, statistical process control, root cause analysis and corrective action, PFMEA, control plans, and various problem-solving approaches
- Ability to define, implement, and track a system-wide PSM program compliant with federal and state requirements
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and technical writing ability with the capacity to interpret and communicate complex technical information
- Willingness to support extended hours, shift work, and weekends as needed
- Proven ability to provide process safety engineering support for complex industrial facilities and projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Process Safety Engineering, or Systems Safety Engineering
- 10+ years of total work experience in EHS
- 7+ years of work experience in an operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, or chemical industry
- Experience working in the aerospace industry
- Experience leading a team of process safety engineers and technicians
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and instrumentation diagrams
- Experience reviewing safety control circuits and calculating safety performance levels
- Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
- Expertise in Life Safety Code (NFPA 101)
- Familiarity with process safety software tools such as PHAWorks, BowTie XP, PHA-Pro, or equivalent
- Professional certifications: PE, CCPSC, CSP, CPSMP, API 510/570/653
Additional Requirements:
- This is not a remote position and will require relocation if not already local to one of the following major Blue Origin hubs: Van Horn, TX; Huntsville, AL; or Cape Canaveral, FL
- Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- This role requires travel to all PSM-covered facilities for Blue Origin
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $134,434.00 - $188,207.25Other site ranges may differ
