About This Position

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time General Manager position within Pemmican Publications Inc located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The General Manager will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and improving the operations and marketing of Pemmican Publications’ books, generating revenue as well as applying and obtaining grants.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Develop a business/strategic plan for Pemmican Publications in consultation with the Board of Directors, stakeholders, etc.;
  • Contribute to operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete work plans;
  • Review, create and implement policies and procedures; productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete file audits; identify trends;
  • Develop and maintain a complete inventory of Pemmican Publications’ materials and order supplies as required;
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure financial accountability practices are adhered to;
  • Research, identify, develop and submit funding proposals to secure funding and grants.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary education in Business or a related discipline;
  • Several years’ experience as a Manager or similar role;
  • Experience in business/strategic planning, finance, project management and developing promotional material;
  • Understanding of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow management;
  • Familiarity with Pemmican Publications and involvement in the Red River Metis community is an asset;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
  • Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Adult Abuse Registry Check is required;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
